Falls short against Wild DiPietro stopped 26 of 29 shots in Saturday's 4-1 loss to the Wild. The fourth goal was an empty-netter.

Impact The Wild controlled the last two periods, but DiPietro put in a fairly good effort. The 27-year-old netminder is filling an NHL role on a full-time basis for the first time. DiPietro has some fantasy upside in more favorable matchups than this one, but his playing time could be limited to 20-25 games as Jeremy Swayman's backup. The Bruins don't have a back-to-back over the next week, so it's unclear if DiPietro will get another chance to resume the hunt for his first win in the near future.

This will be DiPietro's fifth career NHL game and just the second since the start of 2025-26. He is set to be Swayman's backup for the year, though DiPietro may struggle to see much time behind a clear starter.

Impact DiPietro has allowed four goals on 60 shots over two outings this preseason. That level of performance should be more than enough to secure his spot in the backup role this season. Jeremy Swayman will probably get a tune-up Friday versus the Capitals to close out the Bruins' preseason slate, though Jiri Patera could also get a chance to respond to DiPietro's strong exhibition play.

Impact This is DiPietro's second call-up under emergency conditions in the last week, as he'll continue to help the Bruins in practice as a result of Jeremy Swayman and Joonas Korpisalo competing in the 2026 Winter Olympics. The NHL season resumes Wednesday, but the Bruins aren't back in action until Thursday versus Columbus, so Swayman should be back with the team by then after winning the gold medal Sunday. If that's the case, DiPietro will probably be sent back to Providence in the near future.
