Headed for waivers Dumba is set to be waived by the Penguins on Friday.

Impact Dumba has made just 11 appearances for Pittsburgh this year in which he recorded one goal on seven shots, two assists and 16 hits while averaging 14:56 of ice time. With the addition of Brett Kulak in Friday's trade, it appears the 31-year-old Dumba is the odd man out for the Penguins and will likely be headed for AHL Wilkes-Barre/Scranton if he clears waivers.

Impact Dumba has two points over his last three outings, but that's a stretch that dates back to Nov. 14. The 31-year-old has done a fine job on the third pairing when he plays, but he's not the Penguins' top option for that role so far, with Connor Clifton getting a larger share of the playing time. Dumba has three points, five shots on net, 15 hits, 11 PIM and a minus-1 rating through eight outings this season.

Getting change of scenery Dumba and a 2028 second-round pick were acquired by Pittsburgh from Dallas on Thursday in exchange for Vladislav Kolyachonok.

Impact Dumba had a goal, 10 points, 60 PIM, 57 shots, 70 hits and 60 blocks in 63 regular-season appearances with Dallas in 2024-25. He's entering the second campaign of a two-year, $7.5 million contract, so Pittsburgh is receiving the draft pick as compensation for allowing Dallas to free up some much-needed cap space with this trade. Dumba used to be a top-pairing defenseman, and he recorded at least 20 points in seven straight campaigns from 2015-16 through 2021-22. However, he's fallen substantially in recent years, averaging just 15:18 of ice time last season and spending the entire 2025 playoffs as a healthy scratch. Dumba is celebrating his 31st birthday July 25, so a comeback isn't completely out of the question, but it wouldn't be surprising to see him start the season as part of Pittsburgh's third pairing unless the Penguins make further moves to their blue line over the summer.

The 30-year-old is at just eight points with 43 shots on net, 63 hits, 58 PIM, 57 blocked shots and an even plus-minus rating over 55 appearances. He remains on the third pairing and is unlikely to be consistent enough in any area to help most fantasy managers.
