Slated to start Wednesday Blackwood is slated to start Wednesday's home game against the Sharks, Evan Rawal of the Denver Gazette reports.

Impact Blackwood has alternated wins and losses over his last five starts, going 2-3-0 with a 2.26 GAA and .912 save percentage during that time. However, he's coming off a pair of dominant starts against the Red Wings in which he allowed just one goal on 52 shots (.981 save percentage) despite his 1-1-0 record. Blackwood made a pair of starts against the Sharks in November -- one at home and one on the road -- and he went 1-0-1 with a 1.48 GAA and .939 save percentage across those outings.

Gives up one goal in loss Blackwood stopped 23 of 24 shots in Monday's 2-0 loss to the Red Wings. The other goal was an empty-netter late in the third period.

Impact It'd be completely unfair to put much of the blame for the loss on Blackwood's shoulders. He was beaten on a tip-in in the early stages of the first period and kept the Avs in the game throughout the contest, and the second goal came when he was on the bench already. Blackwood has gone 2-2-0 over his last four outings, but he's allowed just one or fewer goals three times over that stretch, so the 29-year-old netminder continues to play at a high level even if the Avalanche are going through one of their most complicated stretches of the campaign.

Set to start Monday Blackwood is slated to tend the twine at home versus the Red Wings on Monday, Evan Rawal of the Denver Gazette reports.

Impact Blackwood will be making his fifth appearance in the Avs' last six contests, having gone 2-2-0 with a 2.55 GAA and one shutout in his previous four games. Injuries have limited the 29-year-old Ontario native to just 20 outings this year, but he has still managed to rack up 15 wins and currently is sporting a career-best 2.32 GAA.

Impact With Scott Wedgewood dealing with a personal issue, Blackwood is the undisputed number one goaltender in Colorado, and he will start a second straight contest. The 29-year-old is struggling a little bit as of late as he is on a personal two-game losing streak in which he's allowed 11 total goals on 47 shots. The Maple Leafs, Sunday's opponent, are on the second of a back-to-back and losers of three straight games.

Impact In terms of save percentage, this was Blackwood's worst outing of the season by a wide margin -- he failed to post a save percentage of at least .700 for the first time in 2025-26. Blackwood has struggled badly since returning from a lower-body injury that caused him to miss six games between Jan. 3 and Jan. 12, stopping only 36 of the 47 shots he's faced, translating to a 5.63 GAA and a .766 save percentage. The sample size is small, but the struggles are real for the 29-year-old netminder.
