Done for season Hughes (undisclosed) will undergo a procedure and will miss the remainder of the season, it was announced Thursday.

Impact The Devils are out of the playoffs and with only four games remaining in the regular season, it was decided that Hughes would have the surgery and get a head start on being ready for training camp in September. Hughes ends the season with six goals and 29 assists, including 13 points on the power play, over 68 appearances in 2025-26, his worst performance in his three-year NHL career. Look for Hughes to have a better 2026-27 campaign, and he could surpass the 50-point mark, if he is able to stay healthy.

Impact Hughes picked up the primary helper on Simon Nemec's power-play goal in the second period before later scoring with just four seconds remaining in the contest. Overall, Hughes is up to six goals, 25 assists, 126 shots on net and 44 blocked shots through 55 games this season. Since the Olympic break, the 22-year-old blueliner has taken a step up with four assists, five points and 22 shots on net across six games. With his recent success at a man advantage, he should continue to quarterback New Jersey's power play moving forward, giving him solid fantasy value in most standard formats.

Impact Hughes missed 10 games due to a shoulder injury. The 22-year-old defenseman is up to 27 points (eight on the power play), 106 shots on net, 40 blocked shots, 24 PIM and a minus-7 rating over 50 appearances. It's not clear if the shoulder injury was related to previous injuries that impacted him early in each of the last two campaigns, though it's a concern that he continues to deal with issues in that area. As long as he can stay healthy, Hughes should be good for top-four minutes and power-play time.

Impact Hughes exited Monday's overtime win over the Flames due to his shoulder issue, andhead coach Sheldon Keefe said after the game that the defenseman would miss some time. Hughes will at least be unavailable through the Olympic break, but a clear timetable for his return hasn't yet been revealed.
