Surprise Game 1 hero
O'Connor scored the game-winning goal Sunday during the Avalanche's 2-1 victory over the Kings in Game 1 of their first-round series.
Impact
The 29-year-old winger missed most of the regular season after undergoing hip surgery last June, and he didn't score a goal in 13 games once he finally made his 2025-26 debut in late March. In fact, O'Connor's last tally was also a playoff game-winner, as he opened the scoring in a 4-0 win over the Stars in Game 4 of the first round last year. O'Connor produced a surprising two goals and six points in that seven-game series before Colorado's elimination, and he may be gearing up to provide some valuable secondary scoring once again despite his bottom-six role.

Assist in season debut
O'Connor (hip) set up a goal in his season debut Tuesday. The Avalanche beat the Penguins 6-2.
Impact
O'Connor had hip surgery on June 6, 2025, and it's been a long road back. He picked up a minor penalty in 15:05 of ice time. O'Connor is a complementary bottom-six guy whose greatest impact comes on the ice, not in the fantasy arena.

Activated from LTIR
O'Connor was activated from long-term injured reserve Tuesday, per the NHL media site.
Impact
According to Evan Rawal of the Denver Gazette, O'Connor will make his season debut against Pittsburgh on Tuesday. The 29-year-old O'Connor missed the first 69 games of the 2025-26 campaign after undergoing offseason hip surgery. In the 2024-25 regular season, he provided 10 goals, 21 points, 89 shots on net, 50 blocked shots and 68 hits in 80 appearances.

Progressing in recovery
Head coach Jared Bednar said Sunday that O'Connor (hip) is progressing in his recovery and could return to game action soon, Aarif Deen of Colorado Hockey Now reports.
Impact
While a clear timetable for O'Connor's return isn't yet clear, he at least seems to be in the mix to suit up for the Avalanche before the end of the regular season. The 29-year-old underwent hip surgery in June and hasn't yet made his season debut after suffering a setback in mid-November. Across 80 appearances with Colorado last year, O'Connor generated 10 goals, 11 assists, 68 hits, 50 blocked shots and 26 PIM while averaging 14:07 of ice time.

Still weeks from returning
O'Connor (hip) is still at least a week or two from returning to the lineup, though it could be longer, Corey Masisak of The Denver Post reports Friday.
Impact
According to Masiask, the Avs will need that extra week or two to re-evaluate when the 29-year-old winger might be ready to get back into the lineup. Given that timeline, O'Connor shouldn't be expected back before the Christmas break, and possibly even into January. With such a lengthy layoff and a significant hip injury, O'Connor could be sent down to AHL Colorado for a conditioning assignment as the next step in his recovery.

Dealing with setback in recovery
O'Connor is dealing with soft tissue issues that are unrelated to his hip injury, Evan Rawal of the Denver Gazette reports Monday.
Impact
Head coach Jared Bednar said Monday that the soft tissue problems O'Connor is dealing with are nothing serious, but that explains why the 29-year-old hasn't returned to the lineup yet. O'Connor was originally expected to be available earlier this month, but considering the length of his absence in addition to this latest setback, it wouldn't be surprising to see the right-shot winger remain out until sometime in December.

Still working way back from injury
O'Connor (hip) is not expected back during the Avs' four-game homestand, Evan Rawal of the Denver Gazette reports Tuesday.
Impact
It was previously reported that O'Connor might be ready to play against the Oilers on Nov. 8, but that day has come and gone. The winger doesn't seem much closer to actually getting into a game. Once given the all-clear, O'Connor will likely start in a bottom-six role but could move up the lineup as needed.

Nearing return
O'Connor is expected to be ready in time for next Saturday's road game against Edmonton, per Evan Rawal of the Denver Gazette on Thursday.
Impact
O'Connor is set to miss the Avalanche's next three games -- Friday in Vegas, Saturday in San Jose and Tuesday against Tampa Bay -- before his anticipated return to the lineup. He hasn't played yet this season, but the 29-year-old will likely serve in a bottom-six capacity once he's healthy. His return might result in Zakhar Bardakov shifting out of the lineup.

Still three weeks out from return
O'Connor (hip) could be back in three weeks, Evan Rawal of the Denver Gazette reports Tuesday.
Impact
O'Connor's recovery timeline looks like it'll push closer to mid-November than earlier in the month. That's still within the initial 5-6 month timeline he had after undergoing hip surgery during the offseason. The 29-year-old will be a welcome addition to the Avalanche's bottom six and penalty kill once he's healthy enough to play.

Shifts to LTIR
O'Connor (hip) was moved to long-term injured reserve on Wednesday, per PuckPedia.
Impact
O'Connor is expected to be out until early November, so this move provides the Avalanche with some cap flexibility without affecting his timeline to return. The 29-year-old is coming off of offseason hip surgery. Once healthy, he is expected to be a fixture in the Avalanche's bottom six.

Lands on injured, non-roster list
O'Connor (hip) was designated for non-roster, injured reserve Monday.
Impact
As expected, O'Connor will miss the beginning of the regular season, and this move simply makes it official. Assuming the initial 5-6 month recovery timeline holds, O'Connor will be looking to get back in action sometime before the holidays. His two-way game will be missed by the Avalanche, but he doesn't hold much fantasy value.

On track for November return
O'Connor (hip) is still on schedule to return in early November, Meghan Angley of Guerilla Sports reports Wednesday.
Impact
That's in keeping with the timetable O'Connor was given when he underwent hip surgery in early June. He had 10 goals, 21 points, 26 PIM, 68 hits and 50 blocks across 80 regular-season outings in 2024-25. When healthy, O'Connor will likely serve in a bottom-six capacity.

ROTOWIRE
Out with hip surgery
O'Connor (hip) underwent surgery and is expected to miss five-to-six months, the team announced Friday.
Impact
A five-to-six month recovery means a return in November at the earliest for O'Connor, who battled through 80 regular-season games in the 2024-25 season in a mostly bottom-six role with the Avalanche. He scored 10 goals and added 11 assists in the regular season, but the 28-year-old brought it to a different level in the postseason with six points in seven games in the team's loss in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs to the Stars. That kind of production will be hard to replace in the role that he played, but if all goes well with his recovery, the Avalanche should still be able to get him back for a big chunk of the season
