Impact Clifford's career saw him suit up in 753 regular-season games, earning 66 goals, 78 assists and 905 PIM. He played for the Kings, Maple Leafs and Blues, and he was a two-time Stanley Cup champion during the Kings' title-winning years in 2012 and 2014. He hadn't made an NHL appearance since 2022-23 with Toronto.

Deemed day-to-day Clifford is considered day-to-day with an upper-body injury, David Alter of The Hockey News reports Tuesday.

Impact Clifford won't play in Tuesday's preseason contest against Ottawa. He is signed to an AHL contract for the 2024-25 season, meaning the Maple Leafs will eventually assign him to the Marlies' training camp.

Inks AHL contract Clifford signed a one-year AHL contract with the Marlies on Wednesday, per Lance Hornby of The Toronto Sun.

Impact The Marlies are the AHL affiliates of the Maple Leafs, but Clifford won't be eligible to play in the NHL under the terms of his new contract. If the Maple Leafs want to use him during the 2024-25 campaign, then they'll have to first sign him to at least a two-way deal. Clifford had 10 goals, 28 points and 140 PIM in 53 regular-season contests with the Marlies in 2023-24. He's also a veteran of 753 career NHL games, recording 66 goals, 144 points and 905 PIM over that span.

Impact Clifford scored eight goals and 20 points in 46 games with AHL Toronto last year while dressed in just two games for the Maple Leafs. The 32-year-old will likely spend most of the 2023-24 campaign in the minors.
