Kyle Burroughs - NHL News & Rumors

Waived by Dallas Burroughs was waived by the Stars on Thursday, Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports reports.

Impact Burroughs is with the Stars on a one-year, two-way contract, and he'll begin the regular season with AHL Texas if he clears waivers. He made 18 regular-season appearances in the AHL with Ontario last year and recorded a goal and six assists, and he'll presumably spend most of the upcoming campaign in the minors once again.

Lands one-year agreement Burroughs signed a one-year, two-way contract with Dallas on Monday.

Impact Burroughs had one goal and six assists in 18 regular-season appearances for AHL Ontario in 2025-26. He will probably spend most, if not all, of the 2026-27 campaign with AHL Texas.

On waivers Burroughs (upper body) was put on waivers Saturday, per Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet, which indicates that LA has also activated him off injured reserve.

Impact Burroughs needs to be healthy in order to appear on waivers, so it seems he's recovered from the injury that cost him the first month of the 2025-26 campaign. He had three assists and 39 PIM in 33 regular-season outings with the Kings last year. Assuming he clears waivers and is sent to the minors, it wouldn't be surprising if Burroughs is recalled to LA later in the season to serve in a bottom-six capacity.

Sporting non-contact jersey Burroughs (upper body) practiced in a non-contact sweater Thursday, Zach Dooley of the Kings' official site reports.

Impact Burroughs isn't expected back until late October due to his upper-body injury, but his return to the ice certainly marks a step in the right direction. Even once given the all-clear, the blueliner will be hard-pressed to get into the lineup and figures to serve primarily as the seventh defenseman for the Kings.

Placed on injured reserve The Kings placed Burroughs (upper body) on injured reserve Sunday.

Impact Burroughs sustained an upper-body injury during Tuesday's preseason game against the Mammoth and will be forced to miss at least the first week of the regular season. However, he's unlikely to play a significant role for Los Angeles this year, even when he's healthy.

Unavailable Saturday Burroughs (upper body) isn't expected to play in Saturday's preseason game versus Anaheim, per Zach Dooley of the Kings' official site.

Impact Burroughs had three assists and 39 PIM in 33 regular-season outings with the Kings in 2024-25. The 30-year-old might spend the season with Los Angeles, but he's probably going to only occasionally be in the lineup, even if he's healthy.

Dealing with upper-body injury Burroughs is managing an upper-body injury sustained in Tuesday's game versus the Mammoth, Zach Dooley of the Kings' official site reports.

Impact Burroughs' injury wasn't specified at the time it occurred. The Kings are still waiting on some tests to figure out his status, but there is not much concern at this time. Burroughs figures to be defensive depth throughout 2025-26, with the Kings poised to begin the year with eight blueliners on their roster.

Sustains injury Tuesday Burroughs won't return to Tuesday's game versus the Mammoth due to an undisclosed injury, Zach Dooley of the Kings' official site reports.

Impact The reason for Burroughs' departure was not revealed at the time of the announcement. The 30-year-old defenseman is not a lock for the Kings' roster, though if the injury is bad enough, he could end up on injured reserve rather than on waivers. Burroughs can be considered day-to-day ahead of Thursday's rematch with the Mammoth.

Checks in, earns assist Burroughs notched an assist and three hits in Monday's 2-1 loss to the Kraken.

Impact Burroughs set up a Quinton Byfield tally early in the first period. This was Burroughs' first appearance since March 3, as he filled in due to the absences of Joel Edmundson (upper body) and Drew Doughty (ankle). The Kings have clinched a playoff spot, and while there's still seeding to play for, they'll likely be cautious with any injuries for the rest of the regular season. Burroughs could see more time, but he has just three assists, five shots on net, 39 hits, 31 PIM and a plus-2 rating over 30 contests, so he's not a factor in most fantasy formats.

Remains in press box Burroughs was scratched for the seventh time in nine games since the 4 Nations Face-Off break when he sat out Sunday's 6-5 win over the Golden Knights.

Impact Burroughs has had trouble staying in the lineup since late January, and with the Kings regularly using six blueliners lately, there doesn't look to be a spot for him any time soon. The 29-year-old has produced just two assists with five shots on net, 36 hits, 31 PIM and a plus-2 rating over 29 appearances. For now, the Kings will entrust third-pairing spots to Jordan Spence and Brandt Clarke, while Jacob Moverare is also awaiting another chance to check in on defense.

No place in lineup Burroughs was scratched for the eighth straight game in Friday's 5-4 shootout win over the Stars.

Impact Burroughs played regularly when the Kings deployed seven defensemen for a couple of months. The return of Drew Doughty from an ankle injury and the return to a six-blueliner formation have combined to pinch both Burroughs and Andreas Englund out of the lineup, even in the absence of Mikey Anderson (finger). The Kings currently have nine defensemen on the roster, and when they get to full health, Burroughs or Englund could be at risk of landing on waivers. Burroughs is stuck on two assists with 34 hits and 31 PIM over 26 outings this season.

Rejoins team Monday Burroughs (personal) was back on the ice Monday after he was re-added to the Kings' roster.

Impact Burroughs has been designated a non-roster player for personal reasons Saturday but looks to be back with the club. The 29-year-old blueliner has been far from a lock for the lineup this season, playing in just 20 games so far this year. In those appearances, Burroughs notched two assists, 31 hits and three shots while averaging a mere 8:39 of ice time.

Won't play Saturday Burroughs (personal) was designated non-roster playing status Saturday, Zach Dooley of the Kings' official site reports.

Impact The Kings activated Trevor Moore (upper body) and Trevor Lewis (lower body) from injured reserve while loaning Andre Lee to AHL Ontario on Saturday in corresponding moves. Burroughs won't play against Tampa Bay on Saturday but could return to the lineup versus Calgary on Wednesday. He has two assists, three shots on goal, eight blocked shots and 31 hits in 20 appearances this season.

Draws in, earns assist Burroughs picked up an assist and three hits in Wednesday's 3-2 win over the Stars.

Impact Burroughs dressed as a seventh defenseman and saw just 4:50 of ice time over six shifts. He was able to make an impact in the limited time, setting up Joel Edmundson's game-tying goal in the second period. Burroughs hadn't played since Nov. 7, and he's unlikely to have a role when the Kings use a traditional six-blueliner arrangement. The 29-year-old is up to two helpers, three shots on net, 23 hits, five blocked shots, 20 PIM and a plus-3 rating through nine appearances.

Losing playing time Burroughs was scratched for Saturday's 4-3 shootout loss to the Blackhawks, the seventh time in the last eight games he's sat out.

Impact Burroughs played regularly early in the season, earning one assist over the first four games. He's one of three healthy right-shot defensemen on the roster, but the Kings have opted to dress four left-handed blueliners lately, with Andreas Englund maintaining a third-pairing role over Burroughs and Caleb Jones. The 29-year-old Burroughs has added two shots on net, 10 hits, 11 PIM, four blocked shots and a plus-2 rating in five appearances. Even when he plays, he has little to offer outside of toughness.

HockeyBuzz.com - Ben Shelley - Kings trade Carl Grundstrom to Sharks, acquire Kyle Burroughs NHL Hockey Trade Rumors

JUNE 27, 2024 • HOCKEYBUZZ.COM

Involved in trade Burroughs was acquired by the Kings from the Sharks on Thursday in exchange for Carl Grundstrom.

Impact Burroughs had two goals, eight points, 71 PIM, 233 hits and 134 blocks in 73 contests with San Jose in 2023-24. He has two seasons remaining on his three-year, $3.3 million contract. Although the 28-year-old won't make much of an offensive impact with LA, the gritty blueliner figures to plug in nicely on the Kings' third pairing. While his minus-42 rating was the fifth worst in the league, the move to LA should have a massive positive impact on him in that category.

JUNE 27, 2024 • ROTOWIRE

Scores in Thursday's win Burroughs scored a goal on four shots, doled out six hits, blocked three shots, added two PIM and went plus-2 in Thursday's 3-1 win over the Kraken.

Impact Burroughs snapped a 23-game point drought with the tally, which was his first career game-winner. The 28-year-old defenseman is up to eight points, 77 shots on net, 71 PIM, 221 hits and 127 blocked shots through 70 contests. The Sharks have given him a steady role for the first time in his career, but his physicality is his best contribution for fantasy purposes, as his offense remains limited.
