Justin Kirkland - NHL News & Rumors

Waived by Minnesota Kirkland was placed on waivers by the Wild on Thursday for the purpose of reassignment to AHL Iowa.

Impact Kirkland is coming off back-to-back years in which he made at least 20 regular-season appearances with Calgary, and he signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Wild during the offseason. He'll likely spend most of the year in the minors once again, but his NHL experience makes him a candidate to be called up if the Wild need additional depth at some point.

Snags one-year deal Kirkland inked a one-year, two-way contract with Calgary on Wednesday, Pat Steinberg of Sportsnet 960 The Fan reports.

Impact Kirkland is far from a lock to make the team coming out of training camp and could spend much of the year in the minors with AHL Iowa. Still, the 29-year-old winger is a decent depth piece who figures to be atop the list of potential call-ups when the need arises.

Gets first goal of campaign Kirkland scored a goal and blocked two shots in Saturday's 4-2 win over the Islanders.

Impact The goal was Kirkland's first of the season, and it stood as his first career game-winner. He's up to two points, eight shots on net, 22 hits and a minus-1 rating over 16 appearances. Kirkland plays on the fourth line when he's not a healthy scratch, and on a low-scoring team, that's not a fantasy-friendly role.
