Placed on waivers Thursday Hicketts was waived by the Kings on Thursday, Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports reports.

Impact Hicketts hasn't made a regular-season appearance in the NHL since the 2019-20 campaign, when he made six appearances with the Red Wings. Assuming he clears waivers, he'll begin the 2026-27 season in the minors, where he'll presumably spend most, or all, of the year.

One of each Sunday Hicketts scored a goal on two shots and added an assist in AHL Ontario's 4-2 win over Tucson on Sunday.

Impact Hicketts is the Reign's captain this year, and he's on a two-way deal with the Kings for this season and 2026-27. The 29-year-old defenseman is among the more experienced blueliners available for a call-up, but the Kings are carrying seven defensemen currently and will likely have eight once Kyle Burroughs (upper body) is healthy. Hicketts had 27 points in 62 regular-season outings in 2024-25 with Ontario and offers minimal upside should he be summoned by the big club.

Designated for waivers Hicketts was waived by Los Angeles on Wednesday.

Impact Hicketts hasn't featured in an NHL game since 2019-20, back when he was with the Red Wings. At 29 years of age, the blueliner seems unlikely to ever become a full-time NHL option. Instead, look for Hicketts to ply his trade in the minors with AHL Ontario this year.
