Jacob Bryson - NHL News & Rumors

Hits waivers Tuesday Bryson was placed on waivers by the Red Wings on Tuesday, per James Mirtle of The Athletic.

Impact Bryson, alongside William Lagesson, was one of two blueliners that the Red Wings placed on waivers Tuesday. The 28-year-old Bryson was a solid rotational defenseman between Buffalo and Winnipeg last season, where he posted two goals, eight points and 29 blocked shots across 50 regular-season outings. He hasn't appeared in the AHL since the 2023-24 campaign, so if he clears waivers, he'll likely suit up for Grand Rapids in the 2026-27 campaign.

Gets one-year deal Bryson signed a one-year, $850,000 contract with the Red Wings on Wednesday.

Impact Bryson had two goals, eight points, 10 PIM, 14 hits and 29 blocks in 50 regular-season appearances between Buffalo and Winnipeg in 2025-26. Bryson is likely to spend a fair amount of 2026-27 as a healthy scratch, but he should also have games where he's plugged into a third-pairing spot.

Registers assist Bryson logged an assist and two shots on goal in Thursday's 6-3 loss to the Rangers.

Impact This was Bryson's first point in three games since he was traded from the Sabres. The 28-year-old defenseman has taken over on the third pairing, though he could lose his spot if Neal Pionk (undisclosed) or Colin Miller (knee) return before the end of the season. Bryson has little fantasy upside -- he has six points, 15 shots on net, 21 blocked shots and a minus-5 rating over 38 NHL appearances this season.

He has a total of six goals and 42 assists over 289 contests in parts of six seasons with the Sabres in his career, so he isn't likely to do much with the Jets.

Removed from IR Bryson (upper body) was activated from injured reserve Monday, per the NHL media site.

Impact The Sabres moved Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen (lower body) to injured reserve in a corresponding move. Following a four-game absence, Bryson is available to play against Florida on Monday. However, he could be a healthy scratch. He has chipped in two goals, five points, 11 shots on net, 20 blocked shots and nine hits in 33 appearances this season.

Moved to IR Bryson (upper body) was designated for injured reserve Friday, Rachel Lenzi of The Buffalo News reports.

Impact Bryson finds himself facing a second long-term stint on the sidelines after he missed nine games earlier in the year while in the concussion protocol. Considering the blueliner has just two points in his last 22 outings, and has periodically served as a healthy scratch, few fantasy managers are likely to be impacted by his absence. With the available roster spot, the Sabres called up Zac Jones from the minors.

JANUARY 23 • YOUTUBE

Set for absence Head coach Lindy Ruff said after Thursday's 4-2 win over Montreal that Bryson (upper body) is going to miss some time, Bill Hoppe of the Olean Times Herald reports.

Impact Bryson suffered his upper-body injury during the second period of Thursday's game and was ruled out prior to the start of the third. Zach Metsa will likely play regularly for the duration of Bryson's absence, though the Sabres will probably elevate a defenseman from AHL Rochester in the near future now that they have only six healthy blueliners.

Sustains upper-body injury Bryson has been ruled out for the remainder of Thursday's game in Montreal due to an upper-body injury, per Bill Hoppe of the Olean Times Herald.

Impact Bryson logged two blocked shots and a plus-1 rating in 6:17 of ice time prior to exiting. If the 28-year-old defenseman is unable to suit up Saturday on Long Island, Zach Metsa will more than likely draw back into the lineup.

Scores goal in loss Bryson scored a goal in Monday's 4-3 loss to Florida.

Impact Bryson tallied Buffalo's first goal of the contest near the midway point of the opening period. With the twine finder, the 28-year-old blueliner is up to two goals, five points, 10 shots on net and 14 blocks through 28 games this season. His second goal of the year helped him set a new career high in twine finders and also snapped his eight-game scoreless streak. He remains off the fantasy radar in all formats until he finds a way to maintain consistent playing time amidst a strong defenseman room in Buffalo.

Quiet on offense Bryson has gone six games without a point after failing to find the scoresheet in Tuesday's 5-3 win over the Canucks.

Impact Bryson's playing time is picking up while Michael Kesselring (lower body) and Conor Timmins (leg) are on injured reserve. Since Bryson's two-point effort versus the Blackhawks on Nov. 21, he has picked up one helper in 14 appearances. He has a total of four points, nine shots on net, 12 blocked shots, seven hits and six PIM through 25 outings this season while seeing third-pairing usage when he plays.
