Impact McCarthy just wrapped up his junior year at Boston University and will forgo a fourth NCAA season. He had a career-high 21 points in 36 outings for the Terriers. McCarthy projects as a stay-at-home defenseman, though he may be able to chip in a little offense depending on how he develops at the professional level.

Impact McCarthy is up to 18 points in 33 contests. That's a career high in points for the defenseman, and his plus-15 rating is also a personal best. The Sabres prospect hasn't stood out much, but scoring isn't going to be his moneymaker as a professional anyway.

The Sabres prospect is likely to be a stay-at-home blueliner in the long run, but it would be more encouraging to see him rack up offense in the NCAA before settling into his mostly defensive role one he goes pro.
