Signs two-year deal
Garand signed a two-year, $1.75 million contract with the Rangers on Sunday, Mollie Walker of the New York Post reports.
Impact
Garand had a 2-0-1 record while allowing only five goals on 96 shots in three appearances for the Rangers last campaign. He also went 16-15-2 with a 2.83 GAA and an .896 save percentage across 36 regular-season appearances with AHL Hartford in 2025-26. The 24-year-old will compete for the backup role behind Igor Shesterkin during training camp.

Earns win in season finale
Garand stopped 29 of 31 shots in Wednesday's 4-2 win over the Lightning.
Impact
Garand got the start between the posts since the Rangers had nothing to play for in this regular-season finale, and in his first appearance since March 27, he delivered a solid outing while posting a .935 save percentage. Garand only made three appearances in 2025-26, going 2-0-1 with a 1.62 GAA and a .948 save percentage. He passed the eye test, but three games isn't enough to project the kind of goaltender he'll be at the next level. He's expected to battle for the No. 2 role next season with the confirmed retirement of Jonathan Quick,

Patrolling crease versus Bolts
Garand is slated to start Wednesday's road clash with Tampa Bay, Vince Z. Mercogliano of The Athletic reports.
Impact
Garand will get the final start of the season while making just his third NHL appearance. In his prior two outings, the 23-year-old backstop went 1-0-1 with a 1.44 GAA. While Igor Shesterkin will remain the No. 1 option in the Big Apple next year, Garand should be in line to step up as the backup now that Jonathan Quick is hanging up his skates.

Earns first NHL win
Garand stopped 27 of 28 shots in Friday's 6-1 win over the Blackhawks.
Impact
This was Garand's second start, and he was able to put in a good effort versus a young Blackhawks team. He's proven himself well in a small sample with just three goals allowed on 65 shots over two outings this season, going 1-0-1. The 23-year-old netminder's time with the big club over the last few weeks likely depends on the health of Jonathan Quick (upper body), though the Rangers could opt to carry three netminders to allow Garand a longer audition. Igor Shesterkin figures to get the nod Sunday versus the Panthers.

Slated to start Friday
Garand was the first goaltender off the ice at morning practice and is expected to patrol the home crease versus Chicago on Friday, according to Mollie Walker of the New York Post.
Impact
The 23-year-old netminder will make his second career start. He turned aside 35 shots in a 3-2 shootout loss to Winnipeg on Sunday. The Blackhawks are 30th in NHL scoring, generating 2.57 goals per game.

Tough shootout loss in debut
Garand turned aside 35 shots in regulation and overtime but failed to stop either shootout attempt he faced in Sunday's 3-2 loss to the Jets.
Impact
Making his NHL debut, the 23-year-old netminder kept the Rangers in the game with some big saves, but Garand was out-matched in the shootout by Kyle Connor and Gabriel Vilardi. With New York headed for the draft lottery and not the playoffs, Garand could see steady work over the final weeks of the season behind Igor Shesterkin, as the team has little reason to deploy 40-year-old Jonathan Quick (upper body) even if he gets healthy.

Making NHL debut
Garand will patrol the home crease against Winnipeg on Sunday, per Peter Baugh of The Athletic.
Impact
With Jonathan Quick (upper body) unavailable, Garand will make his NHL debut in Sunday's matchup. The 23-year-old Garand has a 16-15-2 record with a 2.83 GAA and an .896 save percentage across 36 appearances for AHL Hartford this season. Winnipeg is tied for 23rd in the NHL this campaign with 2.83 goals per game.

Summoned from AHL
Garand was called up from AHL Hartford on Friday.
Impact
There is no word at this time if either Igor Shesterkin or Jonathan Quick are injured or sick. The Rangers do not play again until Sunday, so the move could easily be that Garand will get in some practice with the Rangers, giving Shesterkin and Quick some time off. Garand had a 16-15-2 record with a 2.83 GAA and an .896 save percentage across 36 games with AHL Hartford before his recall.

Dropped to AHL
Garand was assigned to AHL Hartford on Sunday, according to Peter Baugh of The Athletic.
Impact
The Rangers recalled Spencer Martin in a corresponding move. With Jonathan Quick (lower body) unavailable, Garand has occupied the backup role behind Igor Shesterkin for the last five games. The 23-year-old Garand didn't receive any NHL playing time during his recent stint with the big club, but he should see plenty of starts in the minors.

Coming up from AHL
Garand has been recalled from AHL Hartford by the Rangers, the team announced Sunday.
Impact
Garand being recalled is likely not a good sign for the health of the two regular Rangers goalies, Jonathan Quick or Igor Shesterkin. With AHL Hartford, Garand has a 3-6-2 record, 2.96 GAA and an .897 save percentage. If the 23-year-old appears in an NHL game, it will be the first of his career.

First win of season is shutout
Garand posted a 28-save shutout in AHL Hartford's 3-0 win over Springfield on Wednesday.
Impact
Garand has started three of the Wolf Pack's four games so far. This was his first win of the season, and it was also the ninth shutout of his AHL career. Based on the early usage, and his 2.04 GAA and .931 save percentage to begin 2025-26, Garand might have the edge over Talyn Boyko should the Rangers need to make a call-up in the crease.
