Ends slump with helper DeMelo logged a shorthanded assist in Saturday's 5-4 shootout loss to the Penguins.

Impact DeMelo had gone over two months without a point, earning 29 shots on net, 28 hits and 27 blocked shots over that 22-game slump. The 32-year-old defenseman was credited with the secondary helper on Cole Koepke's shorthanded tally in the second period. DeMelo is up to 18 points (two shorthanded), 65 shots on net, 99 hits, 95 blocked shots and 36 PIM over 69 outings this season, playing primarily in a shutdown role in the top four.

Impact During the slump, DeMelo has 27 shots on net, a minus-2 rating, 25 hits and 25 blocked shots. He is primarily a defensive player in a top-four role on the blue line, so the lack of offense isn't a surprise, especially considering the Jets' overall struggles this season. DeMelo has 17 points, 62 shots on net, 96 hits, 92 blocked shots, 34 PIM and a plus-10 rating over 65 appearances. He's at risk of falling short of the 20-point mark for a second straight year if he doesn't end the slump soon.

Cuts off potential collapse DeMelo scored a goal and went plus-2 in Tuesday's 5-4 win over the Islanders.

Impact DeMelo's goal came just over two minutes after the Islanders scored three times in a span of 2:41. The 32-year-old defenseman has three points over seven games in January, including two of his three goals on the season. He's contributed 16 points, 34 shots on net, 69 hits, 65 blocked shots, 32 PIM and a plus-12 rating over 45 appearances. DeMelo remains in a shutdown role in the Jets' top four.

Ends 29-game goal drought DeMelo scored a goal Thursday in a 6-5 loss to Toronto.

Impact DeMelo ended a 29-game goal and an eight-game point drought. His slapper may not have beaten Joseph Woll, but the puck was inadvertently deflected by Auston Matthews. It still counts. DeMelo has two goals, 12 assists, 30 shots, 60 hits and 58 blocks in 39 games. His shot total is woefully low, so if he picks up the shot pace even slightly, DeMelo could come close to equaling his career mark of 31 points, including 28 assists, in 82 games in 2023-24, while delivering triple digits in both hits and blocks.
