Earns win in Isles debut Rittich stopped 31 of 33 shots in Thursday's 4-2 win over the Oilers.

Impact Rittich was making his first start of the season, and while the Oilers were a difficult matchup on paper, the 33-year-old veteran had a solid performance to secure the win in his Islanders debut. Rittich is expected to serve as the No. 2 goaltender behind Ilya Sorokin, however, so he's not likely to be a regular between the pipes for the Isles, leaving his fantasy upside tied to a matchup-based scenario.

First goalie off Monday Rittich was the first goalie off during Monday's morning skate, Andrew Gross of Newsday reports, signaling that he'll get the preseason start at home against the Rangers.

Impact The Islanders are playing their penultimate preseason game Monday, so it could be Rittich's final opportunity to make his case for the No. 2 netminder job behind Ilya Sorokin. Rittich wasn't particularly effective during his preseason debut against the Rangers on Thursday, as he turned aside 20 of 24 shots while playing two periods, so he may need to have a stronger performance Monday if he hopes to stave off Marcus Hogberg, even though Hogberg has also had some struggles during preseason play.

Slated to start Thursday Rittich is expected to defend visiting crease versus the Rangers on Thursday, Stefen Rosner of NHL.com reports.

Impact Rittich will be backed up by Marcus Hogberg as Ilya Sorokin gets the night off. Rittich was the backup goaltender for the Kings in 2024-25, going 16-14-2 with a 2.84 GAA and an .886 save percentage across 34 regular-season games. Rittich will battle the injured Semyon Varlamov (knee) and Hogberg for the No. 2 spot with the Islanders in 2025-26.

Pens one-year contract Rittich put pen to paper on a one-year deal with the Islanders on Tuesday.

Impact Rittich will join a crowded goalie room that already includes Ilya Sorokin, Semyon Varlamov (knee) and Marcus Hogberg. While it's clear Sorokin will enter the 2025-26 campaign as the No. 1 option, there figures to be a three-way competition for the backup job now that Rittich is in the mix. With the Kings last year, Rittich went 16-14-2 with a 2.84 GAA and .886 save percentage.

Yields five goals in loss Rittich gave up five goals on 29 shots in Thursday's 5-1 loss to the Flames.

Impact The Kings rested some players and managed the minutes of others. Rittich held on well for two periods, but the Flames scored four times over 5:30 in the middle of the third to take the regular-season finale. Rittich ends at 16-14-2 with a 2.84 GAA and an .886 save percentage over 34 outings. He won't play much in the playoffs, as Darcy Kuemper is expected to handle to No. 1 job from the get-go when the Kings host the Oilers on Monday for Game 1.

Will start finale Rittich will get the start at home Thursday versus the Flames.

Impact Previous reports indicated Darcy Kuemper was expected, but the Kings will instead go with Rittich against one of his former teams to close out the regular season. Rittich is unlikely to see much playing time in the playoffs, so this could be his last action for a while. He's gone 16-13-2 with a 2.77 GAA and an .888 save percentage over 33 appearances in the backup role this season.

Fades late but still wins Rittich stopped 29 of 34 shots in Tuesday's 6-5 win over the Kraken.

Impact Rittich gave up the last three goals of the game, but the Kings had built up enough of a lead to withstand that damage. The 32-year-old has appeared in the last two games, so he should be ready to roll as the backup for the postseason, though it's unclear who the Kings will have in goal Thursday versus the Flames. Rittich improved to 16-13-2 with this win, but his GAA rose to 2.77 while his save percentage dropped to .888 over 33 appearances. Once the first-round series versus the Oilers begin, expect Darcy Kuemper to handle the lion's share of the starts.
