Colin Blackwell - NHL News & Rumors

Returning from AHL Blackwell was recalled from AHL Texas on Thursday.

Impact Blackwell cleared waivers on Monday after he was dealing with a lower-body injury near the end of training camp. He'll return to Dallas ahead of their Opening Night matchup against the Blues. The 33-year-old veteran was a solid contributor for the Stars across 70 regular-season games in 2025-26, where he compiled four goals, 15 points, 61 shots on net, 112 hits and 37 blocked shots. He'll likely rotate into the team's lineup on the fourth line to open the 2026-27 season.

Avoids long-term injury Blackwell is dealing with a lower-body injury but should return before Opening Night, Robert Tiffin of NHL.com reports Monday.

Impact Blackwell could still return for an upcoming preseason contest, but his focus will be on the Opening Night clash with St. Louis on Oct. 2. In 70 regular-season games last year, the 33-year-old center notched four goals and 11 helpers. As such, he is unlikely to have enough fantasy value in most formats.

Impact Blackwell ended a 15-game point drought with the effort. He last earned a point Dec. 15 versus the Kings when he logged an assist. Blackwell was scratched 10 times during his slump, but the Stars came out of the Olympic break a bit banged up, so he's played in three straight contests. The 32-year-old forward is at nine points, 41 shots on net, 72 hits, 26 blocked shots, 20 PIM and a minus-3 rating over 49 appearances this season.

Stuck in slump Blackwell has posted just one assist over 13 games since the start of December after being held scoreless in Tuesday's 6-3 loss to the Hurricanes.

Impact Blackwell hasn't scored a goal since Nov. 20 versus the Canucks. The 32-year-old forward was starting to slip into a part-time role in late December, but injuries to Jamie Benn (upper body) and Adam Erne (undisclosed) may provide Blackwell with short-term stability in the lineup. Overall, Blackwell has seven points, 30 shots on net, 56 hits, 18 blocked shots and 14 PIM over 38 appearances in a bottom-six role.

Puts away goal Blackwell scored a goal on two shots in Thursday's 4-2 win over the Canucks.

Impact Blackwell has two goals and two assists over his last seven games. The 32-year-old is helping contribute to the Stars' depth scoring in a fourth-line role. For the season, he's at five points, 14 shots on net, 33 hits, 10 PIM and a plus-1 rating over 21 appearances. Blackwell hasn't reached the 20-point mark since 2021-22, so he's unlikely to do enough to help in most fantasy formats even with an uptick in physical play.

Impact Both points came in the third period as the Stars gave their depth players more shifts late in the rout. Records helper in loss Blackwell notched an assist, three hits and two PIM in Tuesday's 5-1 loss to the Blue Jackets.

Impact Blackwell earned his first assist and point of the year on a Tyler Seguin tally in the second period. The 32-year-old Blackwell has slotted into a bottom-six role this season, but injuries to Matt Duchene (upper body), Jamie Benn (upper body) and Oskar Back (undisclosed) have likely led to him getting more games than initially expected this early. When the Stars get healthy, Blackwell will probably be a rotational option on the fourth line, though his penalty-killing ability should help him stay in the lineup. He's added two shots on net, 10 hits, two blocked shots and a minus-3 rating over six appearances.
