INJURIES

Extends point streak Protas recorded a shorthanded goal and took two shots on goal in Tuesday's 4-2 loss to the Flyers.
Impact Protas found the back of the net for the first time since Jan. 24, but the 25-year-old playmaker has routinely found ways to remain productive for the Caps. Aside from extending his current point streak to three games with this goal, this was also Protas' fourth goal and eighth points across 15 games since the beginning of January.

Plucks two apples in comeback win Protas distributed two assists and placed three shots on net in Saturday's 4-3 overtime win over Carolina.
Impact Protas slid a pair of primary helpers Saturday, with the latter of the two coming on Jakob Chychryun's game-tying goal late in the third period. Overall, Protas now has 18 assists, 36 points, 118 shots on net and 31 blocked shots through 53 games this season. Saturday's contest ended his six-game streak with an assist and helped him end January on a high note after struggling through the month, posting just six points. While he likely won't replicate the 66-point campaign he posted across 76 regular-season games a year ago, he should remain heavily involved at even strength, making him a viable fantasy option for the foreseeable future.

Goals in consecutive games Protas scored a goal on four shots and went minus-3 in Saturday's 6-5 overtime loss to the Oilers.
Impact Protas looks to be getting his game back after a three-game absence due to a lower-body injury early in January. He's scored in back-to-back games and has three points over his last five outings. The 25-year-old forward is up to 18 goals, 34 points, 112 shots on net and a plus-15 rating through 50 contests this season. While well off the pace of his 30-goal, 66-point campaign from 76 regular-season games last year, Protas is still a key forward for the Capitals.

Scores first goal since injury Protas scored a goal, took three shots on goal, recorded a hit and blocked two shots in Friday's 3-1 win over the Flames.
Impact Protas came through when the Capitals needed him the most, as he scored the eventual game-winning goal with a wrister at the 7:35 mark of the third period. This was Protas' 17th goal of the season, but it was a noteworthy one since it was the first time he found the back of the net since returning from injury. He hadn't scored since a defeat to the Senators on Jan. 1.

Nabs first helper since injury Protas logged an assist and two hits in Saturday's 5-2 loss to the Panthers.
Impact Protas picked up his first point in five games since he returned from a lower-body injury that cost him three contests. The 25-year-old has reclaimed a steady role in the top six, though he remains without much power-play time. The forward is up to 32 points, 99 shots on net, 27 blocked shots, 22 hits, 16 PIM and a plus-20 rating over 46 appearances. If Protas can get his offense on track, he makes for a solid forward in most fantasy formats.

Placed on injured reserve Protas (lower body) was placed on injured reserve by the Capitals on Wednesday, retroactive to Jan. 1.
Impact Protas has already missed Washington's last two games due to his lower-body injury, so his placement on injured reserve shouldn't have a significant impact on his return timetable. However, he'll be unavailable for Wednesday's matchup against Dallas, and it's unclear when he'll be able to suit up again. Brett Leason was recalled from AHL Hershey in a corresponding move Wednesday to provide additional depth in Protas' absence.

Not playing Monday Protas (lower body) isn't in the lineup for Monday's home matchup versus Anaheim, per Tom Gulitti of NHL.com.
Impact Protas will miss his second straight contest Monday after being deemed a game-time call earlier in the day. Tom Wilson (lower body) also isn't available against the Ducks, so the Capitals are forced to roll with 11 forwards and seven defenseman. Protas' next chance to suit up will be at home Wednesday versus Dallas.

Game-time call Protas (lower body) will be a game-time decision for Monday's matchup with the Ducks, Tarik El-Bashir of Monumental Sports Network reports.
Impact Protas was absolutely lighting it up prior to getting hurt, racking up four goals and five helpers in his last five outings. With Tom Wilson (lower body) ruled out, the Caps could certainly benefit from getting the 24-year-old Protas back in the lineup. If he can't go, the Caps will need to either bring up a forward from the minors or roll with seven blueliners against Anaheim.
