Announces retirement Edler will sign a one-day contract with the Canucks on Oct. 11 ahead of his retirement.

Impact Edler didn't play in 2023-24, and he'll officially hang up his skates with a ceremonial signing with his original NHL team. The defenseman totaled 104 goals and 334 assists in 1,030 regular-season outings as well as 40 points across 93 playoff games. Edler spent 15 years with the Canucks before playing his last two seasons with the Kings.

Impact Edler missed the final five games of the regluar season with an upper-body issue, but it looks like he could be ready to return for Monday's Game 1 against the Oilers. The veteran blueliner has picked up 11 points through 64 contests this season.

Impact Edler has been in the lineup for five straight games, though the Kings haven't had a back-to-back in that span. Over those five outings, the 36-year-old has provided LA with a plus-6 rating, five blocked shots, five hits and two points. He's a steady veteran on the back end, but his 11 points through 59 contests won't make him much of a fantasy option. He's added 102 hits, 96 blocks, 52 shots on net and an even plus-minus rating this season.

Impact Edler has been sitting out one game in each of the Kings' five most recent back-to-back sets, and he occasionally gets scratched at other times for rest. The 36-year-old has two helpers over his five outings in February, but he's not expected to add much offense from a third-pairing role. For the season, Edler has a goal, seven assists, 47 shots on net, 91 hits, 86 blocked shots, 28 PIM and a minus-2 rating through 50 appearances.

Impact Heading into the All-Star break, Edler had gone 19 games without a point, while adding a minus-3 rating with 40 hits and 36 blocked shots. It took him just one game after the break to snap the slump, setting up Jaret Anderson-Dolan for a deflected goal in the first period. At 36 years old, Edler's days of being a reliable scorer are over. He's at seven points, 88 hits, 80 blocks, 46 shots on net, 26 PIM and a minus-6 rating through 46 appearances.

Impact Edler has a goal and six points in 45 contests this season. He's averaging just 15:12 of ice time in 2022-23, and Edler's been a healthy scratch twice in LA's last five games. As long as his role with the Kings stays at its present level, the 36-year-old is unlikely to make significant offensive contributions. He does have 85 hits and 79 blocks though, which makes him the fourth best player on the Kings in each of those categories.
