Goes on waivers Alexeyev was placed on waivers Saturday to be assigned to AHL Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.
Impact Alexeyev didn't record a point in eight regular-season appearances with Washington in 2024-25 while posting seven shots on goal, 14 blocked shots and nine hits. Assuming he clears waivers, he will begin the 2025-26 campaign with Pittsburgh's top minor-league affiliate.

Inks one-year deal Alexeyev signed a one-year, $775,000 contract with the Penguins on Wednesday, according to Wes Crosby of NHL.com.
Impact Alexeyev had no points, a plus-2 rating, seven shots, nine hits and 14 blocks across eight regular-season appearances with the Capitals in 2024-25. He did spend the 2024-25 campaign primarily with Washington, and his lack of appearances can mostly be attributed to how often he was a healthy scratch. Alexeyev might find himself in a similar spot with Pittsburgh by making the team but not drawing into the lineup often.

Alex Alexeyev signs with Penguins as Caps stay on Nikolaj Ehlers watch The Capitals appear to be in a holding pattern, waiting for Ehlers to make his decision, before they proceed with other signings.
JULY 2, 2025 • WASHINGTONPOST.COM
Not extended qualifying offer The Capitals didn't extend a qualifying offer to Alexeyev on Monday, making him an unrestricted free agent.
Impact Alexeyev appeared in just eight games for the Capitals in 2024-25 after making at least 32 appearances for the club in each of the previous two seasons. He was held without a point last year while recording 14 blocked shots and nine hits over his limited action in the NHL. He'll seek out other opportunities ahead of the 2025-26 campaign.

Capitals' Alex Alexeyev pepper-sprayed, arrested for public intoxication The 25-year-old defenseman was said to have assaulted another man in an early-morning incident in Clarendon.
MAY 20, 2025 • WASHINGTONPOST.COM
Arrested Saturday Alexeyev was arrested for public intoxication in Virginia on Saturday, Sammi Silber of The Hockey News reports.
Impact According to the report, police officers observed Alexeyev assaulting a male individual and deployed pepper spray on the 25-year-old as a result. Alexeyev was treated for pepper spray exposure by paramedics at the scene. The Russian defenseman was booked at Arlington County jail and later released. A court date has yet to be set for Alexeyev, who is a restricted free agent heading into 2025-26.
MAY 20, 2025 • ROTOWIRE
Slated to play Wednesday Alexeyev (teeth) is expected to be in the lineup versus the Canadiens on Wednesday in Game 2, Sammi Silber of The Hockey News reports.
Impact Alexeyev suffered some dental damage in Game 1, but he's clear to play with a face shield. The 25-year-old continues to hold onto a third-pairing role since Martin Fehervary (knee) won't be available in the postseason. Alexeyev could be pressured by Dylan McIlrath for playing time later in the playoffs.

Considered game-time decision Alexeyev (upper body) is considered a game-time decision for Wednesday's Game 2 against Montreal, Sammi Silber of The Hockey News reports.
Impact Alexeyev lost several teeth during Monday's Game 1, but he went to the dentist afterward and will wear a full face shield Wednesday if he's available. The 25-year-old blueliner logged 14:02 of ice time Monday and recorded three blocked shots, two hits and a plus-1 rating.

Back in press box since loan Alexeyev has not played in the 16 games since he returned from his conditioning loan with AHL Hershey on March 6.
Impact Alexeyev could have had a chance to play Thursday versus the Hurricanes when left-shot defenseman Jakob Chychrun (illness) was out, but the right-handed Dylan McIlrath drew in instead. This paints a clear picture that Alexeyev is eighth on the depth chart on defense, so it would take at least two absences to the Capitals' regular blueliners to get him in the lineup. He hasn't played an NHL game since Nov. 8.
APRIL 11, 2025 • ROTOWIRE
Returns from conditioning loan Alexeyev was recalled from his conditioning assignment with AHL Hershey on Thursday.
Impact Alexeyev saw action in three minor-league games with the Bears, generating two helpers and a plus-5 rating. Even with his return to the NHL squad, minutes are going to be hard to come by for the 25-year-old blueliner barring an injury on the blue line. His last NHL appearance was Nov. 8 versus the Penguins, a game in which he logged just 12:43 of ice time.
MARCH 6, 2025 • ROTOWIRE
Sent to Hershey Alexeyev was reassigned to AHL Hershey on a conditioning loan Saturday.
Impact Alexeyev has been a healthy scratch since Nov. 8, a span of 46 games. The Capitals will likely keep him in the minors for the full two weeks as the Bears play six times over the next 12 days. Alexeyev is a plus-4 with 10 blocked shots and six hits over five NHL games this season.
MARCH 1, 2025 • ROTOWIRE
Has no path to playing time Alexeyev was scratched for the 37th consecutive game in Tuesday's 3-1 win over the Flames.
Impact Barring a number of injuries on the blue line, it doesn't look like Alexeyev will be getting into the lineup. The 25-year-old has made just five appearances this season. The Capitals may not want to lose the 2018 first-round pick on waivers, but the NHL's top team has avoided messing with a good thing on defense, leaving Alexeyev to stay with the big club with little chance to play.
JANUARY 29, 2025 • ROTOWIRE
Still stuck in press box Alexeyev has not suited up since Nov. 8, a span of 21 games out of the lineup.
Impact The Capitals went with seven defensemen in Monday's game versus the Bruins, but they lost that game 4-1. Dylan McIlrath dressed in that contest, while Alexeyev remained a healthy scratch. That gives an indication into the pecking order should injuries arise on the blue line, and it doesn't bode well for Alexeyev playing a considerable role for the rest of the campaign.
DECEMBER 26, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Can't get into lineup Alexeyev was scratched for the 10th game in a row when he sat out Friday's 5-4 overtime win over the Islanders.
Impact Alexeyev's five appearances this year came consecutively from Oct. 31 to Nov. 8. He recorded 10 blocked shots and six hits in that span. The 25-year-old defenseman hasn't had a chance to play since the Capitals got Jakob Chychrun and Matt Roy back from injuries sustained in October. Alexeyev would require waivers to be assigned to AHL Hershey, so it appears the Capitals are content with having him and Dylan McIlrath on board with the big club as extra options on the blue line.
NOVEMBER 30, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Rejoins team Thursday Alexeyev (personal) was back with the Caps ahead of Thursday's clash with Montreal, Tarik El-Bashir of Monumental Sports Network reports.
Impact Alexeyev will slot into the lineup for Washington for the first time this season thanks to injuries to Matt Roy (lower body) and Jakob Chychrun (upper body). With both injured players still sporting non-contact jerseys at Thursday's game-day skate, the 24-year-old Alexeyev could be pressed into service for the Capitals' upcoming back-to-back versus Columbus and Carolina on Saturday and Sunday, respectively, as well.
OCTOBER 31, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Absent for personal reasons Alexeyev was absent from Wednesday's practice session due to a personal matter, Bailey Johnson of The Washington Post reports.
Impact The 24-year-old would likely be in line to play Thursday against Montreal if Jakob Chychrun (upper body), who is considered day-to-day, is unable to suit up. However, it's not yet clear whether Alexeyev will be back with the team in time for Thursday's home game. Head coach Spencer Carbery also said Wednesday that Matt Roy (lower body) is "getting real close" to returning, but it's not yet clear who would enter the lineup if both Chychrun and Alexeyev are unavailable.

MAY 6, 2024 • JAPERSRINK.COM
Lends assist Sunday Alexeyev recorded an assist and two hits in Sunday's 4-2 loss to the Rangers in Game 4.
Impact Alexeyev set up a Hendrix Lapierre goal in the second period. The helper ended Alexeyev's 19-game point drought, though it was encouraging to see him in the lineup regularly down the stretch. The 24-year-old blueliner had just three points with 48 hits, 59 blocked shots and a minus-8 rating over 39 regular-season contests. Alexeyev is under contract for 2024-25, so he'll have a chance to compete for a bottom-four role with the Capitals in training camp.
APRIL 29, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Deals helper in win Alexeyev notched an assist in Saturday's 2-1 win over the Canucks.
Impact Alexeyev has two helpers over his last five outings. The 24-year-old defenseman saw just 10:16 of ice time Saturday, his lowest total since November. He remains in the mix for third-pairing minutes, sharing a spot in the lineup with Ethan Bear. Alexeyev has a meager three points with 10 shots on net, 38 blocked shots, 20 hits and a minus-5 rating over 23 appearances.
MARCH 17, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Bags apple Alexyev tallied an assist and blocked three shots while logging 15:14 of ice time during Thursday's 6-0 win over the Penguins.
Impact Alexeyev made a pinpoint pass to a wide open Sonny Milano to end a nine-game point drought dating back to Nov. 24. With Joel Edmundson having been traded to Toronto, the 24-year-old should have less trouble getting ice time in the home stretch of the season, but the presence of Ethan Bear could prevent him from garnering a regular role which limits his fantasy appeal.
MARCH 8, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Pots first goal Alexeyev tallied a goal and added two shots while logging 10:55 of ice time in Wednesday's 4-3 overtime win against the Sabres.
Impact The goal marks the first of Alexeyev's NHL career - not to mention his first point of the season. The 24-year-old has struggled to garner a consistent role and has been competing with Lucas Johansen and Hardy Haman-Aktell for playing time as the Capitals have dealt with various injuries to their defense corps. With Joel Edmundson now back in the fold after missing the first month of the season and Martin Fehervary (lower body) nearing a return, it's unlikely Alexeyev will get the regular playing time he needs to deliver much in the way of dividends for fantasy managers.
NOVEMBER 23, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Inks extension Alexeyev signed a two-year, $1.65 million extension with the Capitals on Monday, Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet reports.
Impact Alexeyev tallied five assists while averaging 16:27 of ice time through 32 games as a rookie with Washington this season. The 23-year-old was a first-round pick in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft and should have a full-time role at the NHL level during the 2023-24 campaign.
MAY 1, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Snags helper in loss Alexeyev recorded an assist in Friday's 5-2 loss to the Blues.
Impact Defenseman Nick Jensen has an upper-body injury that caused him to miss the most recent contest, and that has opened up additional opportunities for Alexeyev, whom the Capitals drafted 31st overall in 2018. Alexeyev has five assists accounting for his point total through 20 contests. He's bound to go through his share of growing pains in the NHL, but the big defender at 6-foot-4, 213 pounds has a bright future, and he'll be a physical force for a Capitals blue line forming a new identity following the trade of Dmitry Orlov to the Bruins.
