Confident heading into camp Spellacy is confident ahead of training camp and could make his NHL debut during the 2026-27 season, Ben Pope of the Chicago Sun-Times reports Friday.

Impact Spellacy made a strong impression during training camp ahead of the 2024-25 season, but he hasn't yet made his NHL debut. While he seems unlikely to make Chicago's Opening Night roster this year, he could begin the year in AHL Rockford, which would make him a prime candidate to be called up at some point during the 2026-27 campaign. The 20-year-old made 51 regular-season appearances for OHL Windsor last year and recorded 13 goals, 19 assists and 63 PIM. The 2024 third-round pick has demonstrated strong skating skills and physicality and hopes that his experience from the past several seasons will bolster his performance as he attempts to join the NHL roster at some point this year.

Impact Spellacy logged his first multi-point effort since Nov. 23. The forward has just 27 points in 46 appearances this season, with his 0.59 points-per-game pace nearly identical to 2024-25, when he had 37 points in 62 regular-season outings. Given how many Chicago prospects have had strong seasons, Spellacy's stagnant offense could hurt his long-term potential. That said, he projects as a bottom-six option in the long run.

Impact Spellacy's offense has taken a step back this season -- he has six goals and four assists over 20 games. He hasn't popped as a big scorer for the Spitfires in any of his four seasons, but a decline in production is troubling for a 19-year-old who should be starting to dominate this level of hockey. He was bothered by a shoulder injury during training camp, which may explain his slow start -- he's earned seven of his points over his last nine games.
