INJURIES

Handles four carries Moss carried the ball four times for 21 yards in Saturday's preseason game against the Bears.
Impact Moss made his 2021 debut after undergoing offseason ankle surgery and battling a minor hamstring injury during training camp. He played on only one drive and worked exclusively after Devin Singletary was out of the game, picking up notable gains of six and 11 yards. Moss appears to be behind Singletary on the depth chart for the time being, though that makes sense given his inability to stay on the field consistently to this point.

Playing this weekend Moss will play in Saturday's preseason game against Chicago, Marcel Louis-Jacques of ESPN.com reports.
Impact Moss had ankle surgery in the offseason and missed a few camp practices with a minor hamstring injury. Saturday will be his 2021 debut, while backfield mate Devin Singletary is no lock to play, as Bills coach Sean McDermott said he'll rest many of the veterans who have already spent a few years with the team. Granted Singletary won't necessarily be among that group, considering he and Moss presumably are still competing for playing time in the backfield.

Returns to team drills Moss (hamstring) participated in team drills Monday, Matt Parrino of syracuse.com reports.
Impact Moss was injured last Tuesday and missed Friday's preseason opener in Detroit, but the Bills hope to have him ready for their second exhibition this Saturday at Chicago. It'll be interesting to see how Moss and Devin Singletary split first-team snaps if they both suit up.
AUGUST 16, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Misses preseason opener Moss (hamstring) didn't play in Friday's preseason opener against the Lions.
Impact With Moss out, Devin Singletary got the start and delivered a strong performance (48 scrimmage yards and a touchdown on nine touches). Moss and Singletary are expected to split carries once Moss heals up, with Matt Breida, who totaled 27 rushing yards and 15 receiving yards Friday, mixing in as a change-of-pace option. Since Moss's injury is considered minor, he has a chance of suiting up in Week 2 of the preseason against Chicago.

Impact We would guess that McDermott would have a different statement if Moss was going to play in Friday's preseason opener against the Lions, so don't expect the second-year back to be out there. We'll see if he can get in some form of practicing next week as he competes with Devin Singletary -- and to a lesser extent Matt Breida -- for his share of the carries in the Buffalo backfield.

Impact Moss missed spring practices after having ankle surgery in January, but he returned for training camp without incident until an early exit from Tuesday's practice. In his absence, Devin Singletary could take on a larger share of the first-team reps, with Matt Breida and/or Antonio Williams mixing in. Come Week 1, the Bills figure to have Moss and Singletary splitting work -- assuming both are healthy -- though it won't necessarily be the 50/50 split they used for much of last season.

Picks up new injury Moss exited Tuesday's practice due to a hamstring injury, Sal Capaccio of WGR Sports Radio 550 Buffalo reports.
Impact Moss spent the offseason in recovery mode from a left ankle injury suffered in the Bills' divisional-round win against the Colts that required surgery in mid-January. He opened training camp as a limited practice participant, but he quickly was handling every rep and mentioned that he had cleared the mental aspect of running on the ankle in question. Now, Moss is tending to a new injury, which could impact his availability for Friday's preseason game at Detroit. The situation also may allow Devin Singletary to get a leg up in Buffalo's backfield competition.

Impact Moss should be plenty ready for the regular season, though the Bills have enough depth at the position that they can take it easy on him, even leading into the regular season if need be. What remains unclear is how the carries will be divided between himself and Devin Singletary, and to a lesser extent newcomer Matt Breida.

Impact In other words, Moss will start camp as a limited participant after missing offseason practices entirely. He's coming back from mid-January surgery on his left ankle, again competing with Devin Singletary for first-team reps in the Buffalo backfield. Moss, the 86th overall pick in the 2020 Draft, finished his rookie campaign with 112 carries for 481 yards (4.3 YPC) and four touchdowns, plus 14 catches for 95 yards and another score over his 13 games. Singletary was also a mediocre performer despite starting all 16 games, finishing with 156 carries for 687 yards (4.4 YPC) and two TDs and 38 catches for 260 yards. Given Josh Allen's dominance of the offensive workload, especially in the red zone, it'll be hard for either Moss or Singletary to establish significant fantasy value if the committee continues. Moss at least seems to be on track for Week 1, and he could even make a preseason appearance in August.

Impact Moss's injury is definitely cause for concern for fantasy managers eyeing a roster spot for someone in the Buffalo backfield, especially given his limited NFL experience, but if he can return to full-go for training camp, those concerns would be mostly out the window. It's also anyone's guess as to whether Moss or Devin Singletary will provide the better value in 2021. Moss is a much bigger back than his teammate and has the ability to earn more between-the-tackle and goal-line runs, while Singletary has more experience, isn't coming off an injury, and has apparently used the offseason to get himself in fantastic shape while Moss has been busy rehabbing. Offensive coordinator Brian Daboll has even gone so far as to let the public know he'll have an eye on riding the hot hand on a game-to-game basis.

Impact Moss got hurt in the team's first playoff game last season, and the injury ended up being a serious one, as he required surgery and apparently is still ramping back up. The 2020 third-round pick should be ready to go once training camp rolls around, and it will be worthwhile to monitor his health status. The Bills seem likely to use a timeshare out of the backfield in 2021, with teammates such as Devin Singletary, Matt Breida, Antonio Williams and Christian Wade all competing with Moss for carries.
