INJURIES

Over 100 yards, TD in loss Boyd caught 11 of 13 targets for 101 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 37-34 loss to the Browns. He also threw a 16-yard pass.
Impact Boyd just managed to break the plane for an 11-yard touchdown 15 seconds before halftime, and he's up to 48 catches through seven games this season. The standout slot receiver also put his versatility on display with a 16-yard pass to running back Giovani Bernard on a trick play. As the most consistent weapon for rookie quarterback Joe Burrow, who threw for over 400 yards in this one, Boyd should continue to play a major role in what's projected to be a high-scoring Week 8 affair against the Titans.

Browns look for rebound in rematch with improving Bengals

The Cincinnati Bengals and Cleveland Browns meet Sunday for the season's second Battle of Ohio
OCTOBER 22, 2020 • Associated Press
Totals 79 scrimmage yards Boyd caught five of eight targets for 54 yards and carried once for an additional 25 yards during Sunday's 31-27 loss to the Colts.
Impact Boyd finished tied for second on the team in targets but was limited mostly to short gains while Tee Higgins and A.J. Green did most of the downfield work. He added to his yardage output with an explosive rushing gain, but overall it was a less than stellar outing for the slot receiver. Boyd continues to receive his fair share of targets (eight or more in four of the last five) but he has now been held under 60 receiving yards three times on the season. He'll look to get back on track in a favorable matchup with the Browns next Sunday.

Quieted by Ravens Boyd hauled in four of his six targets for 42 receiving yards during Sunday's 27-3 loss to the Ravens.
Impact The 25-year-old wideout had been outstanding over his previous three outings heading into a tough matchup against Baltimore. Boyd had corralled at least seven passes in each of those three preceding games, boasting an average of 95.7 receiving yards per contest in appearances against the Browns, Eagles and Jaguars. In a showdown against Baltimore's Marlon Humphrey and Marcus Peters, who own a combined three All-Pro nods, Boyd was held to his second-lowest receiving output of 2020. Week 6 doesn't offer a much brighter outlook, as the Bengals go up against an Indianapolis pass defense that entered Sunday as the No. 1 unit in the NFL.
OCTOBER 12, 2020 • ROTOWIRE
Tough corner matchup Boyd will likely be shadowed by Ravens' corner Marlon Humphrey on Sunday, even with A.J. Green active, Jay Morrison of The Athletic suggests.
Impact Humphrey covered Boyd well last season, holding him to a combined nine catches for 72 yards over two games. This was without Green in the lineup, so it's possible that Humphrey could go back to covering Green, but Boyd clearly has been the bigger threat so far this season. The alternative is Marcus Peters, which isn't really a big step down for that matter.

'Winning is fun': Relieved Bengals now look for momentum

The first win of the season generated some relief for the Cincinnati Bengals, who didn't win their first game last season until Week 13
OCTOBER 5, 2020 • Associated Press
Leading receiver in win Boyd caught seven of eight targets for 90 yards and added a four-yard rush in Sunday's 33-25 win over the Jaguars.
Impact Boyd had a would-be 16-yard touchdown nullified by a holding penalty in the first quarter, but he still delivered a nice performance, leading the team in targets, catches and receiving yards. After catching only four balls for 33 yards in Week 1, Boyd has exploded for 287 yards and a touchdown on 24 receptions over the past three games, coinciding with three consecutive 300-yard passing performances from rookie quarterback Joe Burrow. Boyd's the leading option in what has turned into a surprisingly high-octane passing attack heading into a Week 5 trip to Baltimore.

Double-digit catches against Eagles Boyd pulled down 10 of 13 targets for 125 receiving yards during Sunday's 23-23 tie against the Eagles.
Impact It's certainly possible the torch has already been passed from A.J. Green to Boyd as the Bengals' No. 1 wideout, as the 25-year-old has outproduced the seven-time Pro Bowler in amassing 230 receiving yards to Green's 116 through three weeks. Green garnered 22 targets to Boyd's 13 Weeks 1 and 2, but Joe Burrow threw to Boyd with more than twice the frequency than he did Green in Week 3 as Cincinnati avoided a loss for just the third time since the start of last season. Next for Boyd is a matchup against a Jacksonville defense that has already surrendered three wide receiver touchdowns in 2020.

SEPTEMBER 18, 2020 • Associated Press
Paces pass catchers in Week 2 loss Boyd brought in seven of eight targets for 72 yards and a touchdown in the Bengals' 35-30 loss to the Browns on Thursday.
Impact The veteran receiver was within inches of a two-touchdown night, but he couldn't corral a late third-quarter catchable throw from Joe Burrow in the end zone. However, Boyd atoned for the error with time winding down, notching a nine-yard scoring grab with 48 seconds remaining that brought the Bengals to within 35-30 and gave them a brief glimmer of hope. Boyd led the Cincinnati pass-catching corps in receptions and receiving yards Thursday, and for what it's worth, displayed a lot more efficiency with Burrow than top wideout A.J. Green, who could only bring in three of the 13 passes thrown his way. Boyd has 13 targets through the first two games despite Green's return to action, and he'll look to build on Thursday's effort in a Week 3 road matchup against the Eagles on Sunday, Sept. 27.

Quiet performance in Week 1 Boyd caught four of five targets for 33 yards in Sunday's 16-13 loss to the Chargers.
Impact Rookie QB Joe Burrow didn't have much time in the pocket behind a porous offensive line, and as a result Boyd didn't catch his first pass of the game until midway through the third quarter, as Cincinnati had to adjust its game plan to get the ball out of Burrow's hands quickly. The 25-year-old is coming off back-to-back 1,000-yard campaigns and is comfortable working intermediate routes, but he could get more opportunities downfield in Week 2 against a Browns secondary that got lit up by Lamar Jackson and the Ravens passing game in its opener.

Chemistry with Burrow solid Joe Burrow said Sunday that he expects Boyd to have a big 2020 season, Tyler Dragon of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
Impact "I have a great connection with [Boyd] right now," Burrow said. The 25-year-old wideout demonstrated as much chemistry with his rookie signal-caller during Sunday's scrimmage, per Ben Baby of ESPN.com, when the two connected for a 28-yard touchdown. Burrow made ample use of his slot receiver at LSU in 2019, and Boyd has already proven himself in the form of back-to-back 1,000 yard seasons, so it wouldn't come as much of a shock if the two do indeed develop a lethal connection. With a healthy A.J. Green back in the mix in Cincinnati, however, in addition to John Ross and Tee Higgins, it's unlikely that Boyd will enjoy target volume similar to the 148 looks he saw last season.

Impact With Green missing the entire season with an ankle injury, Boyd was the Bengals' unquestioned top target in 2019, a context that yielded 148 targets (tied for the sixth highest in the league) and 90 catches. With Green back in the mix, Boyd may not enjoy quite the volume he did last year, but with a fair amount of defensive focus likely to shift to Green, Boyd should continue to see his share of looks out of the slot. Moreover, the Bengals are on track to start No. 1 overall pick Joe Burrow this season, and though the rookie QB is brimming with upside, Boyd could well end up being an on-field security blanket for the young signal caller in 2020.
AUGUST 14, 2020 • ROTOWIRE
Signs rookie deal Burrow has agreed to terms with the Bengals a four-year contract worth $36.1 million, ESPN's Ben Baby reports.
Impact Per the report, even before he was officially under contract, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft spent the offseason prepping for the opportunity to serve as the team's Week 1 starting QB. An offseason minus on-field reps adds a degree of difficulty to Burrow's transition to the pro game, but the LSU product will at least have a solid collection of wideouts to throw to once training camp practices commence. The group is headed by A.J. Green, with Tyler Boyd, John Ross and rookie Tee Higgins also in the mix.
