Listed as starting defensive end Weatherly is listed as a starting defensive end opposite Danielle Hunter on Minnesota's first unofficial depth chart of the preseason.

Impact Weatherly is competing with D.J. Wonnum for the starting job opposite Hunter, but both players should get plenty of snaps in a rotation. Weatherly previously was with the Vikings from 2016 to 2019, recording 67 tackles, 17 QB hits and six sacks in 49 games (seven starts). He then signed a two-year, $12.5 million contract with Carolina last offseason, but he was released in February after finishing the 2020 campaign with zero sacks and three QB hits in nine games (all starts).

Impact Weatherly signed a two-year contract prior to last season, but after spending seven games on injured reserve in 2020, Carolina has let the defensive end go. Tallying 17 tackles (seven solo) through nine contests, Weatherly will aim to lend a veteran presence elsewhere in the upcoming year.
