Impact Per Marcel Louis-Jacques of ESPN.com, head coach Mike McDaniel indicated Monday that Thompson sustained "some bumps and bruises" during the Dolphins' Week 18 win over the Jets, but the quarterback's ankle injury didn't prevent him from participating fully Wednesday. Meanwhile, McDaniel told Louis-Jacques that the Dolphins are currently preparing for Thompson to start Sunday's wild-card game against the Bills, with Teddy Bridgewater still working his way back from a dislocated pinky finger on his throwing hand as well as a knee issue. Meanwhile, Tua Tagovailoa remains in the concussion protocol and won't be available this weekend.

Impact Thompson was nicked up with an undisclosed injury following this past Sunday's win over the Jets, but with Tua Tagovailoa (concussion) ruled out and Teddy Bridgewater (knee/finger) still not back to full health, Miami is currently preparing as if the third-string quarterback will start versus Buffalo. The rookie's only official start this season came versus New York, but he also played 98 percent of the offensive snaps Week 5. Across those two games, Thompson completed 39 of 64 attempts for 318 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions, numbers which aren't cause for inspiration. Bridgewater was active Week 18 as a backup, but the veteran doesn't look like he'll be able to take enough reps in practice this week to put himself in position to start against the Bills.

Impact Thompson does not appear to be dealing with any definitive injuries, though it wouldn't be surprising if he was less than 100 percent healthy after absorbing nine quarterback hits from the Jets' defense. It will be worth monitoring the rookie's status on Wednesday's injury report, as starting quarterback Tua Tagovailoa (concussion) still has not been cleared for football activity as of Monday. McDaniel also added that veteran signal-caller Teddy Bridgewater could have stepped in under center if needed Week 18, as he was ruled active pregame after being deemed questionable with a dislocated right pinky finger and lingering knee injury Friday. Should Thompson's injury status worsen, then Bridgewater or practice-squad quarterback Mike Glennon could be in line for more prominent roles in Sunday's matchup against Buffalo during the wild-card round of the playoffs.

Impact As has been the case on multiple occasions this season, Thompson was called upon with both Tua Tagovailoa (concussion) and Teddy Bridgewater (finger/knee) dealing with injuries. As the final score indicates, the rookie seventh-round pick didn't exactly help the Dolphins light up the scoreboard, and he was mainly relegated to short passes, averaging a meager 4.9 yards per attempt. However, Thompson stayed away from turnovers and was able to help position Miami for what would prove to be a game-winning 50-yard field goal by Jason Sanders, a drive that included a key nine-yard completion to Jaylen Waddle. With a wild-card road matchup now on tap against the Bills next weekend, it remains to be seen if Thompson will be called on yet again to helm the Dolphins' offense in what would be an unenviable matchup.
