Impact The altered IR rules will allow Lee to return after just three weeks on the sidelines, but there's no guarantee if he'll be ready by then. The veteran linebacker hasn't practiced since the beginning of training camp. In his place, Luke Gifford (undisclosed) is expected to start at strong-side linebacker while Joe Thomas is the primary backup.

Impact Lee still hasn't participated in training camp, so while it's not clear what kind of injury he's dealing with, he'll be afforded a longer recovery timeline on IR. Luke Gifford (undisclosed) and Joe Thomas are candidates to start at strong-side linebacker in Lee's place, and Dallas may bring in a free agent to add depth.

The 34-year-old is no stranger to the injury report. He played all 16 games in 2019 but battled with pectoral, thigh and knee injuries, and he missed 14 games between 2017 and 2018. Joe Thomas and Luke Gifford will likely rotate in at strong-side linebacker for the time being.
