GAME LOG

INJURIES

Logs full practice Neal (ankle) logged a full practice Thursday, John Boyle of the Seahawks' official site reports.
Impact Neal sustained an ankle injury during at some point in Week 6's contest and has been dealing with it since. After recording a limited practice Wednesday, Neal appears to be trending in the right direction. Through his first six games with the team, Neal's notched 16 tackles (10 solo), two pass breakups and one forced fumble.

Dealing with injury Neal (ankle) was a limited participant in practice Wednesday, John Boyle of the Seahawks' official site reports.
Impact Neal appears to have picked up an ankle issue during his second consecutive start in Sunday's win over the Cardinals. However, the 26-year-old was still able to play 100 percent of Seattle's defensive snaps in the contest, so this injury may not be overly serious. Neal will have two more practices to increase his activity before the Seahawks' Week 7 tilt versus the Chargers.

Big performance in win Neal posted seven tackles (six solo), a sack and a pass breakup in Sunday's 19-9 win over the Cardinals.
Impact Neal has surpassed Josh Jones for the starting strong safety job after Jamal Adams (knee) has been ruled out for the season. Over the last two weeks as a starter, Neal has posted 14 tackles (eight solo), two pass breakups, a forced fumble and a sack. The Seahawks rely on their strong safety to be an active tackler, so Neal should be busy as long as he remains the starter.

Likely starting Sunday Neal is likely starting at strong safety for Sunday's contest against the Saints, Brady Henderson of ESPN.com reports.
Impact During Sunday's pregame warmups, Neal was at strong safety, not Josh Jones. Neal took over Jones' safety duties at the start of the fourth quarter in last week's game against Detroit, so it's not surprising he might replicate that for Week 5. Neal has two solo tackles through four games this season.

Dealing with ankle issue Neal is recovering from a high-ankle sprain, Curtis Crabtree of Sports Radio 950 KJR Seattle reports.
Impact The safety is dealing with a bum ankle, forcing him to be less than 100 percent at practice. It's unclear whether the injury will threaten his availability for the preseason or upcoming 2022 campaign, but once healthy, Neal is expected to be the primary reserve option behind Jamal Adams in the Seahawks' secondary this season.

Re-signs with Seattle Neal signed his exclusive-rights tender with the Seahawks on Tuesday.
Impact Neal will return for his fourth year with Seattle after appearing in 29 games over the last two seasons. The 26-year-old totaled 49 tackles and one sack on 403 defensive snaps while serving mainly in a backup safety role, stepping in for injured starter Jamal Adams over the final four games of the season. Neal should continue to see playing time as a rotational safety as well as on special teams in 2022.

The 25-year-old safety's role is locked in for the rest of the season as he approaches unrestricted free agency in the spring. Neal is a formidable IDP option down the stretch.
