GAME LOG

INJURIES

Secures both targets Dwelley caught both his targets for 29 yards during Monday's 34-24 loss to the Bills.
Impact Dwelley has played at least 50 percent of the offensive snaps in each of the past five games, and he has eight catches for 122 yards and one touchdown during that stretch. The 25-year-old should continue to see consistent playing time down the stretch, though Jordan Reed is clearly the preferred tight end in the passing game.
DECEMBER 9, 2020 • ROTOWIRE
Starts, but limited to one catch Dwelley had one reception (two targets) for 22 yards in Sunday's 27-13 loss to the Saints.
Impact Dwelley got another start in George Kittle's (foot) extended absence, but he was primarily used as a blocker while fellow tight end Jordan Reed (five receptions for 62 yards) ran more routes despite playing six fewer snaps. The target share between the teammates makes sense given their differing skill sets. Dwelley will continue to technically start for however long Kittle is sidelined, but Reed appears to be the tight end to chase fantasy points with on this club following the upcoming bye week.

Packers' Adams delivers again with more help on the way

Solid performance in loss Dwelley secured all three targets for 52 yards in the 49ers' 34-17 loss to the Packers on Thursday night. He also returned one kickoff for 20 yards.
Impact With George Kittle (foot) out, Dwelley served as the primary tight end even with Jordan Reed (knee) also being activated from injured reserve for the contest. The third-year tight end finished a distant second in receptions and receiving yards to Richie James, who exploded for a career-best 9-184-1 line. Kittle could well be out for the remainder of the regular season, so Dwelley could retain a solid role in a Week 10 battle against the Saints on Sunday, Nov. 15 while sharing snaps with Reed.

Three Things: RB Dexter Williams, Packers' run defense and TE Ross Dwelley Larry McCarren and Mike Spofford provide three things to look for in the Packers' Week 9 matchup against the San Francisco 49ers.

Playing time opens up Dwelley could have an increased role in the offense with George Kittle (foot) expected to be out for eight weeks, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Impact Kittle suffered a broken bone in his foot during Sunday's loss to the Seahawks and could be out for the rest of the season. After Kittle's exit, Dwelley caught a 16-yard touchdown, and he also had five catches for 54 yards during Kittle's two-game absence earlier this year. However, Jordan Reed (knee) worked as the primary tight end before going down with his own injury. Reed is back at practice and could be on the field for Week 9, but if he's not ready to go Dwelley should operate as San Francisco's top tight end.

Four catches in Week 3 win Dwelley secured all four targets for 49 yards in the 49ers' 36-9 win over the Giants on Sunday.
Impact The third-year tight end saw some extra opportunity with Jordan Reed (knee/ankle) leaving the game on two separate occasions, the second time for good in the second half. George Kittle (knee) is likely to return for a Week 4 Sunday night matchup against the Eagles, but Dwelley could operate as his primary backup if Reed remains sidelined.
SEPTEMBER 27, 2020 • ROTOWIRE
Corrals one pass Sunday Dwelley caught his lone target for five yards in Sunday's 31-13 win over the Jets.
Impact Although Jordan Reed dominated the production in George Kittle's (knee) stead, Dwelley recorded a 64 percent snap share Sunday. Dwelley's fantasy impact is nonexistent as long as Reed is around, but he could have another decent workload on tap Sunday versus the Giants if Kittle sits out.
SEPTEMBER 22, 2020 • ROTOWIRE
Back at practice Dwelley (foot) was a full participant in Thursday's practice, Matt Barrows of The Athletic reports.
Impact Dwelley was dealing with a minor foot injury sustained earlier in camp, but he was practicing without limitations Thursday. After serving as George Kittle's primary backup last season, the 25-year-old will have to compete with veteran Jordan Reed and rookie Charlie Woerner for snaps behind the starter in 2020.
SEPTEMBER 4, 2020 • ROTOWIRE
Labeled day-to-day Dwelley (foot) is considered day-to-day, David Lombardi of The Athletic reports.
Impact The 49ers are also currently without top tight end George Kittle (hamstring) at practices, leaving Jordan Reed as the de facto top option for reps. When healthy, Dwelley stands to compete with Reed for leftover snaps behind Kittle. The 25-year-old primarily operates as a run blocker.

Out Saturday Dwelley did not participate in Saturday's practice due to a foot injury, Matt Barrows of The Athletic reports.
Impact The 49ers were also without Jordan Reed for at least the portion of practice open to the media, although a lack of a specific injury designation might just mean a day of rest for the veteran. Dwelley is expected to compete with Reed for time in two tight-end sets alongside George Kittle.
AUGUST 22, 2020 • ROTOWIRE
Role uncertain in 2020 It's unclear how Dwelley will be used with the signing of Jordan Reed this offseason.
Impact Dwelley proved effective as both a blocker and backup tight end behind George Kittle in 2019, finishing with 91 yards and two scores on 15 receptions. The signing of Reed complicates the 25-year-old's role heading into the 2020 campaign. Dwelley is a superior run blocker, which could keep him on the field in certain heavy packages, but if Reed can stay on the field (a big "if"), then Dwelley will see his already low target share reduced even further.
