Impact With rookie Antonio Gibson dominating headlines related to the team's backfield situation heading into the game, few expected Barber to make a significant impact. He did average an unimpressive 1.7 yards per carry with a long run of just eight yards, but short rushing touchdowns in the third and fourth quarters helped his team complete an impressive come-from-behind victory. Barber should continue to factor into the team's backfield equation for the time being, but he will need to improve his efficiency in order to keep a sizable role. His next chance to do so will come Sunday against the Cardinals.

Impact Barber is the one member of the Washington backfield who hasn't been hyped at any point this spring or summer, though coach Ron Rivera did warn reporters not to forget about the former Buc. There isn't much upside for an early-down bruiser in an offense that's unlikely to be any better than average, but it is possible Barber gets enough carries -- at least initially -- to gum up Antonio Gibson's production. Barber still doesn't offer much appeal as fantasy asset, even if he has a role in the gameplan for Week 1 against Philadelphia.

Impact A reporter mentioned Antonio Gibson and Bryce Love while discussing the Washington backfield after Derrius Guice was released. Rivera responded by mentioning Barber, who made 23 starts for Tampa Bay the past two seasons but averaged only 3.5 YPC over that stretch. He figures to compete with Adrian Peterson for carries on early downs, while Gibson and J.D. McKissic are more likely to handle passing downs. Love could be an option for a variety of situations, though he's essentially an unknown after missing his 2019 rookie season with a knee injury.
