Impact Gaskin was let go from the active roster earlier Thursday to make room for tight end Robert Tonyan, but the former will stick around on the practice squad. Gaskin had played sparingly over the first four regular-season games as he was firmly behind Aaron Jones and Ty Chandler on the backfield depth chart. Over that span, Gaskin played 21 snaps (two on offense, 19 on special teams) and he turned his lone carry into minus-three yards.

Gets let go Gaskin was released by the Vikings on Thursday.

Impact Gaskin appeared in all four games for Minnesota this season and spent time as a kick returner for the franchise. His exit comes as the team opted to sign Robert Tonyan to their active roster to bolster their tight end depth for Sunday's matchup with the Jets in London. Gaskin is a likely candidate to return to the team as a member of its practice squad where he's already spent some time last season and this season, as well.

Signed off practice squad The Vikings signed Gaskin to the 53-man roster from the practice squad Wednesday, Craig Peters of the team's official site reports.

Impact Gaskin had been elevated from the practice squad for Minnesota's first two regular-season games, and the placement of tight end Nick Muse (hand) on IR now opens a spot for him on the active roster. He'll continue handling a depth role behind Aaron Jones and Ty Chandler, while also contributing in the return game, Sunday versus the Texans.

Reverts to practice squad Gaskin reverted to the Vikings' practice squad Monday.

Impact Gaskin played four special teams snaps during Sunday's victory over the 49ers but failed to record any stats. As Aaron Jones and Ty Chandler are the only two half backs on the active roster, Gaskins could be elevated again versus the Texans next week.

Reverts to practice squad Gaskin reverted to the Vikings' practice squad Monday, per the NFL's transaction log.

Impact Gaskin played seven snaps Sunday (two on offense, five on special teams), and he lost three yards on his lone carry. Gaskin served as the No. 3 running back behind Aaron Jones and Ty Chandler, and he would likely reprise that role should he be elevated for Week 2 against the 49ers.

Just one carry in season opener Gaskin lost three yards on one carry on his lone snap on offense in Sunday's win over the Giants.

Impact Gaskin is the No. 3 running back but won't get much usage as long as Aaron Jones and Ty Chandler are healthy. Gaskin did get five snaps on special teams, mostly on kickoffs, so he could be a factor at some point as a returner.

SEPTEMBER 9, 2024 • ROTOWIRE

Pushed up to active roster Gaskin was elevated to the Vikings' active roster Saturday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

Impact This had been widely assumed after Gaskin failed to make the initial 53-man roster leaving the Vikings with just two active running backs ahead of Week 1. At minimum the 2019 draft pick figures to be a potential return specialist and he could see some playing in the passing game spelling both Aaron Jones and Ty Chandler.

SEPTEMBER 7, 2024 • ROTOWIRE

Likely to be elevated before Week 1 Gaskin will likely be elevated to the game day roster from the practice squad before Week 1 to serve as Minnesota's kick returner, Will Ragatz of Sports Illustrated reports.

Impact The Vikings released Gaskin on Tuesday, leaving only Aaron Jones and Ty Chandler in the backfield on the initial 53-man roster, but later signed him to the practice squad. It sounds like Gaskin will serve as the No. 3 RB but the kick return job could be in flux as the Vikings figure out the position with the new kick return rules. Both the No. 3 RB role and kickoff return job are open after the Vikings surprisingly released Kene Nwangwu.

Impact The Vikings released Gaskin on Tuesday, leaving only Aaron Jones and Ty Chandler in the backfield on the initial 53-man roster. They may look at external additions but will at least keep Gaskin around for insurance on the practice squad.

Released by Minnesota Gaskin was released by Minnesota, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

Impact Gaskin faced an uphill battle to win a roster spot as he was fourth on the depth chart at running back behind Aaron Jones, Ty Chandler and Kene Nwangwu. He was solid in the preseason (13 carries for 61 yards in Saturday's finale), so he could find work as a reserve elsewhere in the league or land on Minnesota's practice squad.

AUGUST 27, 2024 • ROTOWIRE

Big workload Saturday Gaskin carried the ball 13 times for 61 yards in Saturday's 26-3 preseason win over the Eagles. He also caught two of three targets for six yards.

Impact The veteran running back got the start in the Vikings' exhibition finale, which doesn't bode well for his chances of making the 53-man roster, but he had another productive preseason performance. Gaskin might have been auditioning for other teams with Aaron Jones, Ty Chandler and Kene Nwangwu set at the top of the depth chart, but if he does wind up back on Minnesota's practice squad, he seems capable of giving the Vikings reliable snaps if called upon.

Has 45 yards rushing in preseason win Gaskin had nine carries for 45 yards and two receptions for 10 yards in Saturday's preseason win over Cleveland.

Impact Gaskin showed he can be a steady veteran as a reserve running back, but he may face an uphill battle to win a roster spot. The Vikings are likely to keep just three running backs with Kene Nwangwu currently ahead of Gaskin on the depth chart.

Impact Gaskin has spent most of the season thus far with Minnesota, bouncing between their 53-man roster and practice squad when he wasn't a free agent.
