Dealt to Kansas CIty
The Vikings traded Hughes to the Chiefs on Thursday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Impact
Kansas City and Minnesota swapped late-round picks to facilitate trading Hughes, Schefter reports. A 2018 first-round pick, Hughes has missed 24 games since joining the NFL. He'll be something of a low-risk reclamation project for a Chiefs secondary in need of more quality depth.

Fifth-year option declined
The Vikings declined Hughes' team option for 2022 on Monday, Ben Goessling of the Star Tribune reports.
Impact
Hughes has had his career derailed by injuries since the Vikings grabbed him in the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft, having missed 24 games over the last three seasons. The offseason addition of Patrick Peterson means Hughes isn't guaranteed a consistent role in the secondary during the 2021 campaign, which will now represent a contract year.

Injury shouldn't be season-ending
Hughes (neck) will miss Sunday's game against the Packers but his injury doesn't appear to be season-ending, Ben Goessling of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
Impact
The Vikings seem to be considering placing Hughes on IR as he works to recover from his lingering neck injury, but it's at least a piece of good news that he's expected to resume playing in 2020. With Holton Hill (foot) looking on track to miss a third straight game, Minnesota's secondary could rely heavily on rookies Jeff Gladney and Harrison Hand to step up against the Packers.

Season in doubt
Hughes (neck) didn't practice Wednesday, and the Vikings are considering a move to injured reserve, Courtney Cronin of ESPN.com reports.
Impact
The team is apparently weighing whether to shut down the 23-year-old for the season, so a return in the immediate future appears unlikely. Hughes has been dealing with the neck issue for over a month and has appeared only four games this season.

Injured during Week 6
Hughes (neck) is doubtful to return to Sunday's matchup against the Falcons.
Impact
The third-year cornerback has been dealing with a neck issue throughout the early stages of 2020, as he was forced to miss the Vikings' Week 3 and 4 matchups against Houston and Tennessee. Hughes made it through last Sunday's loss to the Seahawks with no issue, playing 80 percent of the defensive snaps, but he's on the sideline once again and unlikely to return against Atlanta in Week 6.

Barring a setback, the 2018 first-round pick looks ready to return to the lineup Sunday against the Seahawks. He's expected to resume starting duties, and he'll have his hands full against Russell Wilson, Tyler Lockett and DK Metcalf. Through the first two games this season, Hughes allowed a 155.6 passer rating when targeted.

Sits out practice Wednesday
Hughes (neck) didn't participate in Wednesday's practice.
Impact
The Vikings' defense has struggled over the first two weeks, and Hughes is part of the issue, allowing a 155.6 passer rating when targeted through the first two games. However, he's still the team's best option at the position, so a swift recovery ahead of Sunday's matchup versus the Titans would be ideal. With Cameron Dantzler (ribs) also hurt, rookie Jeff Gladney is on standby if both can't play.

Struggles in pass coverage
Hughes started at cornerback and had seven total tackles in Sunday's 43-34 loss to Green Bay.
Impact
Hughes and the defense struggles in coverage as he gave up six receptions on six targets, including a touchdown, for a 158.3 NFL QB rating against, according to Pro Football Focus. Hughes will need to improve as the team's top cornerback. Hughes wasn't used in the return game given his prominence in the secondary, which hurts his fantasy value.
