Impact Gesicki's lackluster Week 1 production was in line with the rest of Miami's receiving corps, as no pass catcher managed to hit the 50-yard mark against New England. Nonetheless, it's encouraging that the third-year pro did account for every target thrown to the tight end position, with Durham Smythe mixing in as a blocker. Gesicki always possesses weekly touchdown upside, but he looks like a low-floor fantasy option heading into a Week 2 tilt against Buffalo's stout defense.

Impact For the second straight day, Gesicki's reps were capped on account of the upper-leg issue. The Dolphins have yet to suggest Gesicki is in any real danger of missing Sunday's season opener at New England, but the tight end will likely need to put in a full workout Friday to avoid carrying an injury designation into the weekend.

Impact Gesicki appears to have picked up the injury over the weekend, as he had previously been held out of Saturday's practice. The third-year pro was listed as the No. 2 tight end behind Durham Smythe on Miami's first unofficial depth chart, per Wolfe, but Joe Schad of The Palm Beach Post notes that Gesicki nonetheless remains locked in to the majority of receiving work at the position. Gesicki put together a late-season breakout in 2019 and concluded the campaign with 51 catches for 570 yards and five touchdowns, while Smythe has never managed 100 receiving yards in a single season. As such, Smythe's position atop the depth chart primarily seems like a hint that he could be in line for a heavy blocking workload Week 1.

Impact Gesicki should certainly benefit from interior matchups that will let him take advantage of his rare athletic gifts, assuming Parker and Williams are each able to build upon the relative success both enjoyed in 2019. For his part, Gesicki was serviceable last season while logging 51 catches for 570 yards and five scores, but his 57.3 percent catch rate and lack of broken tackles are representative of the fact that he rarely exceeded expectations. Of course, Gesicki was considered a raw prospect coming out of Penn State, and at arguably the most difficult position to adjust to at the NFL level. If he's able to take a step forward Year 3, Gesicki could be well positioned for a breakout campaign. The 24-year-old could even potentially transform into a safety blanket for Tua Tagovailoa, if the quarterback eventually takes the field and defaults to the usual rookie tendency of leaning on his tight end.
