INJURIES

Limited Thursday Williams (shoulder) was limited at practice Thursday, Darren Urban of the Cardinals' official site reports.
Impact Williams has been a regular receiver for Kyler Murray over the last three games, hauling in all 15 of his targets for 179 yards and one touchdown. Now that he's upgraded from Wednesday's missed session, Williams seems to be heading in the right direction through his shoulder issue. Friday's injury report could clear Williams' status entirely for Sunday's contest against the 49ers.

No practice Wednesday Williams (shoulder) didn't practice Wednesday, Josh Weinfuss of ESPN.com reports.
Impact After failing to catch his only target on a season-high snap share (79 percent) in Week 1, Williams has been busy as a receiver over the last three games on less work, hauling in all 15 passes directed his way from Kyler Murray for 179 yards and one touchdown. It's unclear if Williams' current health concern will threaten his ability to suit up Sunday versus the 49ers, but he'll look to get back on the practice field Thursday and/or Friday and put himself in a position to do so.

Finds end zone Sunday Williams caught all five of his targets for 66 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 37-20 win over the Rams.
Impact The tight end had another big performance, tying A.J. Green for the team lead in catches while falling one yard short of Green and DeAndre Hopkins for the team lead in receiving yards on the afternoon. Williams got into the end zone for the first time this season in the second quarter, hauling in a 14-yard strike from Kyler Murray to give the Cards a lead they wouldn't relinquish. Williams will look to continue his strong start to the campaign in Week 5 against the 49ers.

Hauls in three more passes Williams posted three catches (on three targets) for 19 yards during Sunday's 31-19 win at Jacksonville.
Impact Williams continues to earn the bulk of the Cardinals' snaps on offense this season, with his 76-percent share Sunday in line with his marks from Weeks 1 and 2 (80 and 74 percent, respectively). Meanwhile, fellow TEs Darrell Daniels (34 percent) and Demetrius Harris (10) remained well behind Williams in Week 3. Williams' output has been sporadic to date, as he followed up a zero-catch performance in the season opener with a 7-94-0 line on seven targets Week 2. Considering he's only surpassed 200 yards receiving twice in six seasons prior to 2021, he'll likely be hard-pressed to do more than his performance this past Sunday on a weekly basis.

Rare productive outing Sunday Williams gathered in all seven of his targets for 94 yards during Sunday's 34-33 win against the Vikings.
Impact Following the departure of Dan Arnold in the offseason, Williams was the incumbent tight end in Arizona with the most experience in the Cardinals offense. Williams has been as much through two games, earning 80 percent of the offensive snaps in the season opener before playing 74 percent of those plays Week 2. Meanwhile, reserve TE Darrell Daniels has logged 22 and 31 percent, respectively, with Demetrius Harris (33 and two) bringing up the rear. Williams was quiet Week 1, as he didn't have a catch on one target, so Sunday's breakout was an encouraging sign that he'll have the occasional productive outing.

Back from illness Williams (illness) wasn't listed on the Cardinals' injury report Wednesday, Josh Weinfuss of ESPN.com reports.
Impact Williams was sidelined preseason Week 2 due to a non-COVID-19 illness, and the Cardinals' exhibition finale at New Orleans was cancelled due to Hurricane Ida, limiting the seventh-year pro to just one game in August. As the incumbent TE with the most experience on the Cardinals, he's kicking off the season as the team's No. 1 option at the position. But due to the strength of the wide receiver room and Williams' own limitations as a pass catcher, he doesn't hold much fantasy utility at this stage in his career.

Doesn't play Friday Williams didn't play in Friday's preseason defeat to the Chiefs due to a non-COVID-19 illness, Josh Weinfuss of ESPN.com reports.
Impact The Cardinals' No. 1 tight end, Williams logged seven offensive snaps in the team's exhibition opener last Friday en route to one catch (on one target) for four yards. Considering he's compiled 23 receptions and 28 targets in 25 career contests with the team, he's not a candidate to be a regular in Arizona's passing attack. But Darrell Daniels is the only other TE to have logged time with the Cards, leaving Williams at the top of the depth chart, when healthy.

Another injury-plagued season Williams gathered in eight of 10 targets for 102 yards and one touchdown in nine games during the 2020 season.
Impact An ankle injury plagued Williams along the way, resulting in a stint on IR and seven games missed. When on the field, he shared TE reps with Dan Arnold -- who broke out with a 31-438-4 line on 45 targets -- and Darrell Daniels (8-92-1 on 11 targets). Williams has one year left on his current contract, while Arnold is an unrestricted free agent, so it'll be interesting to see if the latter is retained, and what the overall breakdown of the tight end room is, heading into 2021.

Available Week 17 Williams (ankle) is active for Sunday's game against the Rams.
Impact The 26-year-old received the questionable after sitting out Week 16 with the ankle injury, but he's ready to go Sunday. Williams and Darrell Daniels (hamstring) should work behind starter Dan Arnold.
JANUARY 3, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Questionable for Week 17 Williams (ankle) is questionable for Sunday's game against the Rams, Katherine Fitzgerald of The Arizona Republic reports.
Impact Williams closed out the practice week with back-to-back limited sessions, but he's still uncertain for the season finale. Darrell Daniels (hamstring) is also questionable for Sunday. Dan Arnold is expected to lead the position group regardless, and Seth DeValve will see more work against the Rams if Williams and Daniels are unavailable.
JANUARY 2, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Upgraded to limited in practice Williams (ankle) was listed as a limited participant for the Cardinals' practice session Thursday.
Impact Williams' ankle issue kept him out during Arizona's Week 16 loss to the 49ers, providing the 26-year-old with his first absence since he emerged from the ankle injury that kept him on IR between Sept. 21 and Nov. 7. He appears to be trending in a positive direction for the Cardinals' regular-season finale at the Rams, but the fact that Dan Arnold (back) has a positive outlook for Week 17 reduces the likelihood of increased passing-game involvement for Williams.
JANUARY 1, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Non-participant Wednesday Williams (ankle) didn't participate in Wednesday's practice, Darren Urban of the Cardinals' official site reports.
Impact Williams and Darrell Daniels (hamstring) both sat out of Wednesday's session, while Dan Arnold (back) was a limited participant. Seth DeValve was the only tight end without an injury tag to start the practice week. Williams missed last week's loss to the 49ers, so he'll need to get back on the practice field by Friday to have a shot at playing in Week 17.
