Impact The tight end returned to the team Wednesday after being placed on the COVID list Jan. 5. Williams remains on IR while rehabbing an ACL injury that he suffered in October and he will focus on a return for the 2022 season.

Moves to COVID-19 list The Cardinals shifted Williams (knee) from injured reserve to the reserve/COVID-19 list Wednesday, Darren Urban of the Cardinals' official site reports.

Impact Williams is in recovery mode from a torn ACL in his right knee, which he sustained Oct. 10 against the 49ers. Now that he's in COVID-19 protocols, he'll have to stay away from team facilities. Aaron Wilson of Sportstalk 790 Houston noted all 13 players that were placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list Wednesday tested positive for the virus.

Recovering from surgery Williams revealed via his personal Twitter account that he underwent surgery on his right knee Oct. 24.

Impact The Cardinals haven't offered specifics regarding the nature of Williams' surgery, but so long as the procedure didn't involve an ACL repair, he could have a shot at being cleared for the start of OTAs in late April. Whether Williams joins the Cardinals or another team for those workouts isn't yet known, as the 27-year-old tight end is set to become an unrestricted free agent at the start of the new league year. Before sustaining his knee injury in Week 5, Williams had been productive in a starting role for Arizona, turning in a 16-193-1 receiving line on 17 targets.
