Is Shady the answer? Bucs return LeSean McCoy to pass-catching role Absent for nearly two months, LeSean McCoy returned Sunday and helped spark the Bucs in their win over the Vikings.

Efficient with rare carries McCoy rushed four times for 32 yards and secured his only target for a three-yard reception in the Buccaneers' 26-14 win over the Vikings on Sunday.
Impact With Leonard Fournette a healthy scratch, McCoy saw his first touches since Week 6 and nearly matched the six carries on the season he'd come into the game with. The veteran unsurprisingly looked quick and decisive on his runs, as he has fresh legs after having played very little over the last 12 months when also factoring in the quiet conclusion to his Chiefs tenure last season. McCoy's solid production may have earned him another chance to serve as a complementary back in a Week 15 divisional battle against the Falcons.

Buccaneers confident they will rebound, finish season strong

Bruce Arians never promised it would be easy to transform the Tampa Bay Buccaneers into championship contenders
DECEMBER 4, 2020 • Associated Press
One snap against old squad McCoy logged just one offensive snap and did not record any statistics in the Buccaneers' 27-24 loss to the Chiefs on Sunday.
Impact McCoy has now logged a combined four snaps over the last six games, with all of those concentrated between Weeks 10 and 12. The veteran running back has been rendered an absolute nonfactor when Ronald Jones and Leonard Fournette are healthy, and even rookie Ke'Shawn Vaughn's inactive status didn't equate to any action for McCoy on Sunday versus his most recent team.

Bucs puzzled by inconsistency against playoff contenders

Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are searching for answers for their inconsistency
NOVEMBER 24, 2020 • Associated Press
Left out of game plan McCoy didn't record a snap in Monday's 27-24 loss to the Rams.
Impact Despite Ke'Shawn Vaughn serving as a healthy scratch for a third straight game, McCoy wasn't utilized at all Monday, conceding the backfield duties to Leonard Fournette and Ronald Jones. This was the fourth time in five games that McCoy didn't log a snap on offense.

Logs three snaps in Week 10 win McCoy did not record any statistics over three snaps from scrimmage in the Buccaneers' 46-23 win over the Panthers on Sunday.
Impact The veteran running back's irrelevance persisted in Week 10, although McCoy at least saw a smidgen of game action after not logging a single snap over the three prior games. McCoy appears destined for a similar outlook during the second half of the season as long as the likes of Ronald Jones and Leonard Fournette remain healthy in front of him.
NOVEMBER 16, 2020 • ROTOWIRE
Lack of game action persists McCoy failed to log a snap for the third consecutive game in the Buccaneers' 38-3 loss to the Saints in Week 9.
Impact The multi-time Pro Bowler has seemingly become a forgotten man in the Buccaneers backfield, despite retaining active status each week. McCoy last received a touch from scrimmage in Week 6 against the Packers, when he rushed four times for one yards and also recorded one catch for six yards. Even with rookie Ke'Shawn Vaughn inactive, McCoy seems to have little chance for meaningful opportunities -- if any at all -- as long as Ronald Jones and Leonard Fournette are healthy ahead of him.

No snaps in Week 7 win McCoy didn't log a snap from scrimmage in Sunday's 45-20 win over the Raiders, with the return of Leonard Fournette from an ankle injury playing a significant role, Greg Auman of T...
Impact McCoy had just received his second-highest snap count of the season (19) in the Week 6 win over the Packers, but that came while Fournette was inactive. In Week 7, coach Bruce Arians opted to utilize Fournette in a change-of-pace and nickel-situation role in place of McCoy, with the former proving he was up to the task with 97 yards from scrimmage on 17 total touches (11 carries, six receptions). Arians went as far as labeling Fournette as the team's "nickel back" following the game, leading to speculation McCoy could serve as an occasional healthy scratch moving forward as long as the rest of the backfield is available.

Logs five touches in return McCoy (ankle) rushed four times for one yard and brought in his only target for six yards in the Buccaneers' 38-10 win over the Packers on Sunday.
Impact The veteran made his return from a one-game absence, but as his final numbers imply, his impact was minimal, even with Leonard Fournette (ankle) inactive. McCoy's four rush attempts were actually a season high, but after logging a combined 11 targets in Weeks 2 and 3, he's seen just a target apiece in each of his last two contests. McCoy could eventually be surpassed by rookie Ke'Shawn Vaughn on the depth chart, although the rookie will likely have to further prove his mettle in pass protection and as an outlet option out of the backfield before that comes to pass.

Ready for return McCoy (ankle) doesn't have an injury designation for Sunday's game against Green Bay, Adam Caplan of SiriusXM NFL Radio reports.
Impact Ke'Shawn Vaughn filled in as the passing-down specialist with McCoy inactive for last Thursday's loss to the Bears. While the rookie has flashed some potential, McCoy will probably take the role back now that he's healthy.

Chiefs sign Le'Veon Bell 2 days after release from Jets

Workload capped in practice McCoy (ankle) was a limited participant in practice Thursday.
Impact Like McCoy, fellow running back Leonard Fournette (ankle) has also been limited in both of the Buccaneers' first two practices of Week 6 after both essentially sat out the Week 5 loss to the Bears with injuries (Fournette played one snap). Assuming both are active for Sunday's game against the Packers, McCoy will probably find himself behind starter Ronald Jones and Fournette in the pecking order at the position. McCoy has seen his offensive snap share decrease over each of his four appearances this season, going from 36 percent Week 1 to seven percent Week 4.
OCTOBER 15, 2020 • ROTOWIRE
Limited Wednesday McCoy (ankle) was a limited participant in Wednesday's practice.
Impact McCoy's Grade 2 ankle sprain forced him to sit out the Buccaneers' Week 5 loss to the Bears, but he seems to have made some progress. With both Ronald Jones and Ke'Shawn Vaughn practicing fully to begin the week and Leonard Fournette (ankle) trending in the right direction, the Buccaneers won't have much incentive to rush McCoy back on the field. Coach Bruce Arians has called the veteran back week-to-week.
