Stefanski, Rees and Falcons ask too much of Penix and passing game in loss mired by 4 interceptions

Coach Kevin Stefanski, offensive coordinator Tommy Rees and the Atlanta Falcons asked too much of Michael Penix Jr. against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Locked down in Week 8 Pitts caught two of five targets for six yards during Sunday's 16-0 loss to the Buccaneers.

Impact Pitts was unable to make it four straight weeks with a touchdown, and he was held to two or fewer catches for the first time since Week 3 versus Green Bay. The tight end has exceeded 50 receiving yards just one time over eight contests to open the 2026 campaign, so fantasy managers are pretty reliant on him reaching the end zone. Pitts and the rest of the Falcons' offense will have a good chance to get back on track in Week 9 against the Bengals' inconsistent defense.

Another TD in Week 7 win Pitts brought in all five targets for 22 yards and a touchdown in the Falcons' 29-20 win over the 49ers on Sunday.

Impact Pitts tied for second in receptions and targets for the Falcons on the afternoon, but he averaged just 4.4 yards per catch. However, the veteran tight end did score for the third consecutive game, recording a five-yard touchdown catch with just under nine minutes remaining in the third quarter. Pitts' production will inevitably fluctuate week to week, but he's clearly established himself as a reliable red-zone target for Michael Penix heading into a Week 8 road matchup against the Buccaneers next Sunday.

Two more scoring grabs in loss Pitts brought in five of seven targets for 60 yards and two touchdowns in the Falcons' 31-23 loss to the Bears on Sunday.

Impact Pitts led the Falcons in receptions and was second and third in targets and receiving yards, respectively. The veteran right end continued his resurgence after a dreadful first three games of the season where he managed just a 2-20-0 line on six targets, as Pitts has now scored three times overall in the last two games. He also posted back-to-back five-catch tallies as a Week 7 home matchup against the 49ers approaches on Sunday.

Falcons are facing more quarterback uncertainty after Penix injures rib in overtime loss

The Atlanta Falcons again are facing quarterback uncertainty after Michael Penix Jr. left Sunday night's 30-23 overtime loss to the Baltimore Ravens with a rib injury

Scores first TD of season Pitts caught five of six targets for 42 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 30-23 overtime loss to the Ravens.

Impact Pitts scored his first touchdown of the season on a five-yard reception in the second quarter. He has stirred to life after a painfully slow start, recording eight catches for 89 yards and a TD over the last two games after having just two catches for 20 yards through Week 3. Michael Penix sustained a rib injury late in the game, and while Tua Tagovailoa proceeded to throw the game-losing interception in overtime, it's worth noting that Pitts was Tua's primary target in the preseason. Atlanta's QB situation will bear monitoring ahead of a Week 6 home game against the Bears.

Uptick in production during big win Pitts secured all three targets for 47 yards in the Falcons' 45-24 win over the Saints on Monday night.

Impact Pitts finished second in receptions and tied for runner-up status in targets on a night when Michael Penix didn't have to do an inordinate amount through the air thanks to the ground attack's exploits. Despite the relatively modest numbers, Pitts' final line was a vast improvement over his first three games of the season, when he'd mustered just a 2-20-0 line on six targets. Pitts' uptick in involvement could have some sticking power given his rapport with Penix, and the duo will look to continue clicking into a Week 5 home matchup against the Ravens on Sunday night.
