Kenyan Drake Fighting Hard to Impact the Las Vegas Raiders Kenyan Drake is an excellent running back in a loaded Las Vegas Raiders locker room.
1 DAY AGO • NEWSOBSERVER.COM
Gets reps with starter out Drake rushed four times for 15 yards and caught both of his targets for 17 yards in Sunday's 26-20 preseason win over the Vikings.
Impact Starter Josh Jacobs (rest) and veteran backup Ameer Abdullah (rest) were both held out of this contest after getting heavy work in the Hall of Fame Game last week, so rookie Zamir White started and split work with Drake. The latter looked sharp with his six touches in head coach Josh McDaniels' new offense. Drake will duke it out with the aforementioned running back options this preseason to determine the pecking order behind Jacobs. So far, it doesn't look great for the 29-year-old.
2 DAYS AGO • ROTOWIRE
Limited on ground Thursday Drake rushed five times for nine yards during the Raiders' preseason win over the Jaguars in Thursday's Hall of Fame Game.
Impact Drake drew even with Josh Jacobs for third in carries on the night in what was his first game action since Week 13 of last season. The veteran back seems to be fully recovered from the ankle injury that cut short his 2021 campaign, and as Week 1 approaches he'll look to solidify his standing in a Raiders backfield that also includes Jacobs, Zamir White, Ameer Abdullah and Brandon Bolden.

Raiders running back Josh Jacobs embraces 'big year' ahead

The Las Vegas Raiders' decision not to exercise the fifth-year option on Josh Jacobs' contract is fueling the running back heading into the new season
JULY 28 • ASSOCIATED PRESS
Cleared to start camp Drake (ankle) has received medical clearance to begin training camp, Vincent Bonsignore of the Las Vegas Review-Journal reports.
Impact Drake will retake the practice field for the first time since undergoing December ankle surgery, and subsequently missing June minicamp. The 28-year-old veteran will look to compete to reprise his complementary role alongside top option Josh Jacobs (undisclosed) during the 2022 campaign, though rookie fourth-rounder Zamir White and Brandon Bolden could offer competition for touches.
JULY 21 • ROTOWIRE
Kenyan Drake's offseason one of commitment to recovery, Raiders and a cause The running back is focused on bouncing back from a season-ending injury but has also found time to work on a cause close to his heart.
JULY 19 • THEATHLETIC.COM
On track for training camp Drake (ankle) is expected to participate in the start of training camp, Kevin Patra of NFL.com reports.
Impact Drake was held out of June minicamp while recovering from December ankle surgery, and even if he isn't back to 100 percent health by the start of training camp, the Raiders at least expect him to participate in on-field activities. It remains to be seen what sort of role the 28-year-old will handle under new coach Josh McDaniels, though it's worth noting that Josh Jacobs also missed minicamp due to an undisclosed injury. Rookie fourth-round pick Zamir White could offer Drake competition for early-down work if he's able to impress McDaniels and the coaching staff.
JULY 18 • ROTOWIRE
Held out of minicamp Drake (ankle) didn't practice during June minicamp, Vic Tafur of The Athletic reports.
Impact Drake broke his ankle in early December and had surgery a few days later, finishing with 545 total yards over 12 games in the first season of a two-year, $11 million contract with the Raiders. It's unclear if he'll have a role under the new coaching staff led by Josh McDaniels, but an injury guarantee on his 2022 base salary means Las Vegas doesn't have a financial motive to release the 28-year-old running back, incentivizing them to at least give him another look once he's available for practice. It remains to be seen if Drake will be ready for the start of training camp in late July. Josh Jacobs (undisclosed) also missed minicamp, either with a minor injury or as a precaution against one, leaving Brandon Bolden, Ameer Abdullah and rookie fourth-round pick Zamir White as the top RBs.
JUNE 21 • ROTOWIRE
Recovering well from ankle injury Drake is bouncing back well from the broken ankle he suffered last year, Tashan Reed and Vic Tafurof The Athletic report.
Impact Drake appeared in 12 games with the Raiders last season prior to undergoing season-ending surgery on his broken right ankle. While it remains to be seen if he'll have any initial limitations in practice, barring any setbacks, the 28-year-old should be well past the injury ahead of Week 1. This coming season, Drake will reprise his complementary role in Las Vegas' backfield, a context that gives him a degree of PPR utility while working behind top early-down back Josh Jacobs. Also in the mix for running back touches are the versatile Brandon Bolden and 2022 fourth-rounder Zamir White. White's role out of the gate figures to hinge on his ability to improve as a receiver and display aptitude as a blocker, but for now we'd expect that Drake's experience and ability as a receiver should give him a place in the team's offense under new coach Josh McDaniels.

Raiders sign RB Ameer Abdullah to 1-year deal

The Las Vegas Raiders have signed free agent running back Ameer Abdullah to a one-year deal
MARCH 18 • ASSOCIATED PRESS
Restructures contract Drake (ankle) restructured his contract with the Raiders on Thursday, Vincent Bonsignore of the Las Vegas Review-Journal reports.
Impact Drake compiled just 545 scrimmage yards across 12 appearances in his inaugural season in Las Vegas, and he's currently recovering from season-ending right ankle surgery. Agreeing to restructure his deal helps the Raiders free up cap space for some potential splashes in free agency, and keeps the the 28-year-old on track to operate as the No. 2 backfield option behind Josh Jacobs in new coach Josh McDaniels' scheme. Drake could have a shot at making it back on the field in time for spring OTAs.

NFL Week 14 injury report: What to know about Aaron Rodgers, Adam Thielen, Marlon Humphrey, more
Officially placed on IR Drake (ankle) was placed on injured reserve Wednesday.
Impact Drake's move to IR was fully expected after Raiders interim head coach Rich Bisaccia said Monday that the running back will undergo season-ending surgery on his right ankle later this week. He'll likely have a chance to return in time for OTAs next spring, but the Raiders aren't expected to establish a return timetable for Drake until after his procedure. Jalen Richard (reserve/COVID-19 list) and Peyton Barber are in line to serve as the primary backups to Josh Jacobs for the remainder of the season.

Getting surgery on broken ankle Raiders interim head coach Rich Bisaccia said Monday that Drake will undergo surgery on his right ankle in Birmingham, Ala. later this week, Paul Gutierrez of ESPN.com reports.
Impact As expected, Drake will require a procedure to address the season-ending fractured right ankle he sustained in Sunday's 17-15 loss to Washington. The Raiders should have a clearer idea on a recovery timeline for Drake once surgery is completed, but he could have a shot at making it back for OTAs in the spring. He'll conclude his first season in Las Vegas with 545 yards from scrimmage and three touchdowns on 7.7 touches per game over his 12 appearances. Drake's absence leaves Jalen Richard and Peyton Barber as the lone depth options at running back behind starter Josh Jacobs, who could take on a slightly larger role as a ball carrier and pass catcher with Drake out of the picture.

Diagnosed with broken ankle Drake broke his ankle in Sunday's loss to Washington and will miss the rest of the season, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Impact Drake's leg was rolled up on when he was tackled on his third touch of the day, and his injury will wind up costing him the rest of the campaign. With Drake unavailable the rest of the way, Jalen Richard will likely pick up his work on passing downs when he comes off the COVID-19 list, and Peyton Barber could also see more work when starter Josh Jacobs needs a breather.
