INJURIES

Out for rest of Monday's game Allen (back) will not return to Monday's game against the Saints, Daniel Popper of The Athletic reports.
Impact Allen recorded two receptions for 29 yards and a touchdown before leaving the game with a back issue. While the severity of the injury is unknown at this time, it is bad enough to keep him sidelined for the remainder of the game. In his absence, rookie Justin Herbert will have to look to the likes of Mike Williams, Jalen Guyton, KJ Hill and Tyron Johnson at receiver.

Questionable to return Allen is considered questionable to return to Monday's matchup versus the Saints due to a back injury.
Impact Allen caught both of his targets for 29 yards and a touchdown before exiting the contest. It remains to be seen if he will be able to return. In his absence, the Chargers will have Mike Williams, Jalen Guyton, KJ Hill and Tyron Johnson available at wide receiver.

Heavy workload in loss Allen brought in eight of 12 targets for 62 yards in the Chargers' 38-31 loss to the Buccaneers on Sunday.
Impact The veteran wideout was due for a busy day with Mike Williams (hamstring) out of action, and he unsurprisingly ended up pacing the team in receptions and targets. Allen has now brought in 28 of 41 targets for 290 yards and a touchdown in three games with Justin Herbert under center, after securing four of eight targets for 37 yards in his one game with Tyrod Taylor (ribs/lung) as his quarterback Week 1. Allen will look to keep up his strong connection with Herbert if the latter helms the offense once again in a Week 5 road matchup versus the Saints.

Deja vu: Chargers off to 1-2 start for 3rd straight year

If it feels as if Anthony Lynn and the Los Angeles Chargers are having an awful case of déjà vu, you can’t blame them

Impressive day despite loss Allen caught 13 of his 19 targets for 136 yards and a touchdown in the 21-16 loss Sunday to the Panthers.
Impact There should be no doubt who Justin Herbert's favorite target is. Allen once again proved to be invaluable for the rookie quarterback routinely creating space with expert route running in the middle of the field. The myriad of crossing routes, which have been a staple in past years, were on full display as well allowing for the savvy route runner to always find a way to get open. Allen and Hunter Henry were Herbert's primary focus which unsurprisingly accounted for the majority of the targets in the middle of the field. The heavy target total probably isn't something that will be repeatable considering the Chargers trailed for the majority of the contest, but it's obvious Allen's stature as a fantasy mainstay has not changed with the rookie under center.

SEPTEMBER 21, 2020 • Associated Press
Just short of 100-yard effort Allen caught seven of 10 targets for 96 yards in Sunday's 23-20 overtime loss to Kansas City.
Impact First-round pick Justin Herbert got his first NFL start in place of Tyrod Taylor (chest) and immediately worked to establish chemistry with the Chargers' No.1 receiver, directing a team-high 10 targets Allen's way. It's early, but the team's QB turmoil hasn't disrupted Allen's volume, and he could be poised for a productive Week 3 against a Panthers defense that just allowed Mike Evans to pile up 104 receiving yards and a TD.

Mundane in season opener Allen tallied four receptions for 37 yards in Sunday's 16-13 win over the Bengals.
Impact Allen did record eight targets, but at least three could be generously deemed "not catchable." It was a disappointing outing for the veteran wide receiver, particularly with the likes of Mike Williams (shoulder) and Hunter Henry able to capitalize on their bountiful target shares to the tune of 142 combined receiving yards. Allen had arguably some of his best outings against the Chiefs (Los Angeles' Week 2 opponent) last season, piling together 17 receptions, 153 receiving yards and two touchdowns in the two meetings during 2019 thanks in large part to a game script that quickly got out of hand for the Chargers. While the Tyrod Taylor offense didn't look particularly efficient passing the ball, there might be enough opportunities late to afford Allen a bounce-back performance next week.
