Not slated to play Sunday Allen, who was placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list Monday, is not in line to play Sunday against the Giants, Jeff Miller of the Los Angeles Times reports.

Impact While Allen is not slated to be activated for the contest, the report notes that barring any late issues, fellow wideout Mike Williams, who also is on the COVID list, should be able to play this weekend. Minus Allen, added Week 14 snaps will be available for Jalen Guyton and Josh Palmer.

Impact Unvaccinated players that test positive are automatically subject to 10-day quarantines, while vaccinated players that test positive are eligible to rejoin their teams as soon as they're asymptomatic for at least 48 hours and able to turn in two negative COVID-19 tests at least 24 hours apart. In the majority of similar cases this season, vaccinated players have typically needed more than a week to clear protocols, but the Steelers' T.J. Watt notably bucked the trend Week 13, returning to the team five days after testing positive and then playing his normal allotment of snaps in Pittsburgh's win over the Ravens. Allen will hope to follow a similar path Week 14, but the odds will still be against him gaining clearance ahead of Sunday's 4:05 p.m. ET kickoff. The fact that the Chargers are hosting the Giants rather than traveling across the country for the matchup at least removes one possible complication in Allen's bid to play this weekend.

Tests positive for COVID-19 Allen's placement on the reserve/COVID-19 list Monday was the result of a positive test for the virus, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

Impact Allen has been his usual productive self this season -- 86 catches for 929 yards on 124 targets -- but he only had two touchdowns before doubling that number this past Sunday in Cincinnati. Now, his status is in question following Monday's development. Coach Brandon Staley told Gilbert Manzano of The Orange County Register that Allen is "day-to-day right now, and hopefully we'll have some good news on him in the next few days." A lot of that depends on Allen's vaccination status. If he's able to test negative twice at least 24 hours apart, he'd be eligible to return to the active roster. If he's unable to do so before Sunday's game against the Giants, Jalen Guyton and Josh Palmer would be in line for more work along with starting wide receiver Mike Williams.

Impact The vaccination status of Allen is unclear, but he's now in danger of missing his first game of the season, one day removed from doubling his TD count on the campaign with two scoring strikes this past Sunday at Cincinnati. His status will be one to monitor as the week goes on, but if Allen ends up sidelined Week 14 against the Giants, Jalen Guyton and Josh Palmer would be in line for additional work alongside starting wide receiver Mike Williams.

Snares two touchdowns Allen tallied four catches on eight targets for 34 yards and two touchdowns in the Chargers' 41-22 win over the Bengals on Sunday.

Impact It's a bit disappointing that in Allen's first game with a touchdown since Week 8 he suddenly saw his fewest targets since mid-October, but he did see a team high in looks as quarterback Justin Herbert spread the ball around plenty. It'll be interesting to see the type of workload Allen will receive next week against a hapless Giants team that did not have starting quarterback Daniel Jones (neck) and also saw backup Mike Glennon leave Sunday's matchup with a concussion. Facing an opponent possibly down to its third-string signal caller entering Week 14, the Chargers offense, and by default Allen, could be utilized less against a suddenly toothless New York lineup.
