INJURIES

In clear for Week 4 Palmer (elbow/calf) was a full participant in Thursday's practice.
Impact The pair of injuries kept Palmer from practicing Week 3 before he sat out a 20-10 loss to the Steelers, but after opening Week 4 prep with limited and full practices, he's on track to put an end to his one-game absence this Sunday versus the Chiefs. What's less clear is which quarterback Palmer might be working with, as Justin Herbert aggravated an ankle injury against Pittsburgh and has been limited in both of the Chargers' first Week 4 practices. If Herbert can't go, Palmer would find himself on the receiving end of targets from either Taylor Heinicke or Easton Stick.

Returns to limited practice Palmer (elbow/calf) was listed as a limited practice participant Wednesday.
Impact Palmer didn't practice at all ahead of Week 3 action, so his participation in Wednesday's session, albeit in a limited fashion, offers hope that his absence from the lineup may last just one game. The wideout has two more chances to increase his participation level ahead of Sunday's contest against the Chiefs.

Not playing Week 3 Palmer (elbow/calf) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Steelers.
Impact Though Palmer failed to practice in any fashion this week due to his pair of injuries, the Chargers still held out some hope the wideout could be available Sunday, as he was listed as questionable heading into the weekend. He'll ultimately miss his first game of the season, however, with his absence perhaps paving the way for either Simi Fehoko or Derius Davis to join Quentin Johnston and Ladd McConkey in three-receiver sets. The Chargers offense could end up skewing more run-heavy than usual, given the absence of Palmer along with the fact that quarterback Justin Herbert may be compromised a bit as he plays through a high-ankle sprain.
SEPTEMBER 22, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Status in question for Sunday Palmer (elbow/calf) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game in Pittsburgh.
Impact Palmer was held out of practice Wednesday and Thursday due to elbow and calf injuries, but neither concern is enough to rule him out for Week 3 action. In the end, his availability will be confirmed, one way or another, about 90 minutes before Sunday's 1:00 p.m. ET kickoff. Quentin Johnston and Ladd McConkey would stand to benefit if Palmer is inhibited or sidelined this weekend, with Derius Davis, Simi Fehoko and Brenden Rice the other available wide receivers on the Chargers' active roster.
SEPTEMBER 20, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Misses Thursday's practice Palmer (calf/elbow) did not practice Thursday.
Impact Palmer played through a knee issue during Los Angeles' win over the Panthers in Week 2, but he's now missed back-to-back practices while being listed with two new injuries. Versus Carolina, though, Palmer caught one of just two targets for 19 yards while only playing 41 percent of offensive snaps. If he can't practice in at least a limited fashion Friday, it looks like Palmer could be facing an uphill battle to play Sunday versus Pittsburgh.

Dealing with new injuries Palmer (elbow/calf) didn't practice Wednesday.
Impact Palmer is listed with a new pair of injuries after being questionable last week due to a problem with his knee. He ended up playing in Sunday's 25-3 win over the Panthers, catching both of his targets for 19 yards while playing only 41 percent of snap on offense. It's possible his role will be scaled back again if he ends up playing this Sunday at Pittsburgh.
SEPTEMBER 18, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Minimal production against Panthers Palmer caught both of his targets for 19 yards in Sunday's 26-3 win over the Panthers.
Impact Through two weeks, Palmer has recorded just four catches for 34 yards. The veteran wideout has yet to establish himself as the Chargers' top option in the passing game, while teammates Quentin Johnston and Ladd McConkey have earned more attention for their roles in the offense. Nonetheless, Palmer will look to take a step forward in Week 3 when the Chargers visit the Steelers.

Chargers success in running game gives time for inexperienced passing game to get up to speed

Suits up Sunday Palmer (knee) is listed as active for Sunday's game against the Panthers.
Impact After logging two limited practices, Palmer finished the week with a 'DNP' on Friday and headed into the weekend listed as questionable. With his availability Sunday versus Carolina confirmed, Palmer should continue to see his share of snaps and targets alongside fellow WRs Ladd McConkey and Quentin Johnston, in the absence of any limitations or setbacks. Prior to being ejected late in the fourth quarter of the Chargers' Week 1 win over the Raiders, Palmer logged an 81percent snap share on offense en route to recording a 2/15/0 receiving line on four targets.
SEPTEMBER 15, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Likely to play Sunday Palmer (knee), who is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Panthers, is "tracking to play," a source tells Adam Schefter of ESPN.
Impact Palmer failed to complete a full practice this week, turning in a pair of limited sessions Wednesday and Thursday before sitting out Friday's session entirely. His absence Friday apparently wasn't the result of a setback and might have been precautionary more than anything, so Palmer is expected to be cleared to play when the Chargers release their inactive list 90 minutes prior to Sunday's 1 p.m. ET kickoff. Even if Palmer suits up as anticipated, he might have his snaps managed to some degree.
SEPTEMBER 15, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Doesn't practice Friday Palmer (knee) didn't practice Friday and is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Panthers.
Impact Palmer downgraded to DNP on Friday after two limited practices, so he may be trending in the wrong direction. If Palmer joins DJ Chark (hip; IR) on the sidelines Sunday, Quentin Johnston and Ladd McConkey would be joined by Derius Davis, Simi Fehoko or Brenden Rice in three-receiver sets.
SEPTEMBER 13, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Questionable for Week 2 Palmer (knee) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Panthers.
Impact Palmer was limited in practice throughout the week. He's coming off a disappointing season opener in which Palmer had just two catches for 15 yards before being ejected in the fourth quarter after getting into a fight with Raiders defensive back Jack Jones. On the bright side, Palmer doesn't appear to be facing any supplemental discipline from the team for his ejection.
SEPTEMBER 13, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Remains limited at practice Palmer (knee) remained limited at practice Thursday.
Impact Palmer was also limited Wednesday, but so far there's nothing to suggest that he's is much danger of missing Sunday's game against the Panthers. That said, the wideout will presumably need to practice fully Friday in order to avoid a Week 2 injury designation.
SEPTEMBER 12, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Logs limited practice Palmer (knee) was limited at practice Wednesday.
Impact Palmer was listed on the Chargers' Week 1 injury report as a full participant both Thursday and Friday, but this time around he was listed as limited as he continues to manage a knee issue. In this past Sunday's 22-10 win over the Raiders, Palmer logged an 81 percent snap share alongside Ladd McConkey (67 percent) and Quentin Johnston (67 percent) while catching two of his four targets for 15 yards.
SEPTEMBER 11, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Only two targets in opener Palmer caught just two of his four targets for 15 yards in Sunday's 22-10 win over the Raiders.
Impact Palmer at least had the aura of a No. 1 target as the Raiders seemed to deliberately take away the fourth-year wide receiver during the few times Justin Herbert dropped back to pass in the first half. Both Ladd McConkey (seven) and Quentin Johnston (five) drew more targets than Palmer, but both had schemed looks scattered in throughout a game that saw the teams combine for nearly 50 rushing attempts. A Week 2 matchup against a Panthers defense that allowed 47 points in the season opener could reveal more information on the target hierarchy in 2024.

Poll position for top targets Palmer is in position to be the team's leader in targets this season, Daniel Popper of The Athletic reports
Impact This isn't a shocking statement by Popper, but it underscores the relationship that Palmer and Justin Herbert have compared to the collection of newcomers on the roster. Rookie second-round pick Ladd McConkey profiles as the wideout most likely to challenge Palmer for a plethora of targets, but the fourth-year wideout has been Herbert's fourth-most targeted wideout in his young career, a stat that matters significantly given the Pro Bowl quarterback missed critical time in training camp due to a foot injury.

Not playing Saturday Palmer will not play in Saturday's preseason opener against the Seahawks, Daniel Popper of The Athletic reports.
Impact The team is opting to keep a number of its clear starters on the sideline to kickoff the preseason. Expect to see plenty of Quentin Johnston and Brenden Rice as the young wide receivers look to continue improving in the exhibition contests.

Locked in with starters Palmer has been a regular presence on the first-team offense at training camp, Daniel Popper of The Athletic reports.
Impact Palmer, Ladd McConkey and DJ Chark reportedly are dominating WR reps on the starting offense, leaving Quentin Johnston and others to work with the backups. Palmer averaged a career-high 58.1 receiving yards per game last season, including 70.6 ypg from Week 3 onward, but a knee injury and concussion led to seven absences. After some hints of limited participation in the offseason program, Palmer seems to be back at 100 percent for training camp and is regularly catching passes from QB Justin Herbert. There's opportunity for the 2021 third-round pick to enjoy a fourth-year breakout, although he's probably looking at reduced team passing volume relative to prior years now that head coach John Harbaugh and offensive coordinator Greg Roman are running the show in Los Angeles.
