Four stops in big win
Whitehead recorded four tackles (all solo) in the Buccaneers' 45-17 win over the Dolphins on Sunday.
Impact
Whitehead logged 46 snaps overall while recording his second-highest tackle total of the campaign. The fourth-year pro isn't quite matching the caliber of IDP production he mustered during a career-best 2020 season (74 tackles, 2.0 sacks, two INT, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery), but as long as he continues to hold down the starting free safety job, he should have a chance to improve his numbers as the season unfolds.

To be available Week 2
Whitehead (hamstring) practiced in full Wednesday.
Impact
Whitehead didn't practice at all before he was ruled out for last Thursday's opener against the Cowboys, the result of a hamstring injury. Coach Bruce Arians told Greg Auman of The Athletic earlier Wednesday that Whitehead "went full speed" at practice, and indeed that has come to pass. The Buccaneers thus will have their starting safety tandem of Whitehead and Antoine Winfield available Sunday versus the Falcons.

Officially out Thursday
Coach Bruce Arians said Whitehead (hamstring) is officially out for Thursday night, Jenna Laine of ESPN.com reports.
Impact
After clearing COVID-19 protocols late in training camp, Whitehead suffered a minor hamstring injury that is going to keep him out of Week 1. The 25-year-old hasn't practiced yet this week and will look to rehab during the 10-day break before the Bucs' Week 2 contest against the Falcons. Mike Edwards will start in his place.

Sits out practice Monday
Whitehead (hamstring) was a non-participant at Monday's practice.
Impact
Whitehead continues to battle a hamstring injury, and coach Bruce Arians said over the weekend the safety is considered day-to-day. The 24-year-old likely will need to practice in some capacity Tuesday or Wednesday to have a chance of suiting up for Thursday's season opener versus the Cowboys.

Progressing well in recovery
Coach Bruce Arians said Whitehead (shoulder) may not practice at mini-camp but is "looking really good" in his recovery, Mark Cook of PewterReport.com reports.
Impact
The 24-year-old underwent surgery to repair a torn labrum in his left shoulder in mid-February after the team's Super Bowl victory, and his recovery has apparently gone well over the past three months. The fact Whitehead hasn't already been ruled out from practicing at mini-camp indicates he's on track to be ready for the start of training camp in July

Surgery this week
Whitehead is scheduled to undergo shoulder surgery this week, Greg Auman of The Athletic reports.
Impact
Whitehead has been suffering through a torn labrum in his left shoulder since exiting the divisional-round matchup against the Packers with the injury. The starting safety pushed through and played in the Super Bowl against the Chiefs, where he posted two solo tackles. The 23-year-old will aim to recover in 4-to-6 months, which would likely put him on track for training camp participation.

Caps off strong '20 fighting injury

Impact
The soon-to-be fourth-year pro was able to play the full regular season for the first time in his career, setting new career highs in sacks and interceptions while also forcing his first fumble. Whitehead also allowed a sub-60.0 percent completion rate in primary coverage for the second straight campaign, and he followed up his solid numbers with nine tackles (eight solo) and two forced fumbles across the Buccaneers' four-game postseason run, despite exiting the NFC Championship Game win over the Packers with a shoulder injury after separating Aaron Jones from the ball in the third quarter of that contest. Whitehead enters the final year of his rookie contract in 2021, and it remains to be seen whether the organization will be interested in signing him beyond next season with a preemptive extension this offseason.
