INJURIES

No listing Wednesday Williams isn't listed on the Commanders' injury report Wednesday.
Impact It was reported earlier Wednesday that Williams was limited in Washington's first practice of Week 4 prep with an illness, per John Keim of ESPN.com. But the ensuing breakdown on the injury report didn't include Williams, whether it was the team's official site or the NFL communications site. As a result, Williams is poised to continue serving as the Commanders' third running back behind Antonio Gibson and J.D. McKissic on Sunday at Dallas, which so far has resulted in one carry for six yards on three offensive snaps through three games.
SEPTEMBER 29, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Dealing with illness Williams was limited during practice Wednesday due to an illness, John Keim of ESPN.com reports.
Impact The severity of the aliment doesn't appear to be too serious as the running back was able to at least participate in some of Wednesday's practice. He'll have a couple of days to shake the illness before the team needs to make a decision on his status for Week 4. However, he's played primarily on special teams, so his potential absence wouldn't be a major concern.
SEPTEMBER 28, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
No touches in season opener Williams played one offensive snap and 12 snaps on special teams during Sunday's 28-22 win over Jacksonville.
Impact Williams appears slated to keep hold of the No. 3 role behind Antonio Gibson and J.D. McKissic as long as Brian Robinson (knee) remains sidelined, but while the starters remain healthy he doesn't carry any fantasy value. It's possible that Williams could see some situational short-yardage work in the future, but there's also no guarantee he receives a single offensive touch Week 2 at Detroit.
SEPTEMBER 14, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Works ahead of Patterson again Williams took four carries for 12 yards and one catch for nine yards in Saturday's preseason loss to Kansas City.
Impact Brian Robinson and Antonio Gibson handled the first half, while J.D. McKissic (groin) was unavailable. After that, Williams worked ahead of Jaret Patterson, who took two carries for one yard and a touchdown. Williams also played ahead of Patterson the previous week, but it isn't clear the Commanders will keep a fourth back behind Robinson, Gibson and McKissic.
AUGUST 22, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Agrees to contract extension Washington signed Williams to a contract extension Tuesday.
Impact The running back will remain with the team through the 2022 season. Williams appeared in five games in 2021, turning 17 carries into 79 rushing yards and a score while also reeling in four catches for 28 yards.
JANUARY 11, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Limited to eight snaps Williams took two carries for four yards and caught two of three targets for seven yards in Sunday's 20-16 loss to the Eagles.
Impact Williams played only eight snaps on offense, one-third his total from the week before, even though Antonio Gibson missed Sunday's game on the reserve/COVID-19 list. Rookie Jaret Patterson was the clear lead back with 62 percent snap share and 17 touches, while Wendell Smallwood handled a lot of passing downs after coming up from the practice squad. Williams thus figures to close out the season in a reserve role Week 18 at the Giants, regardless of Gibson's availability.
JANUARY 3, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Should see more work this week Williams is poised for a larger role this week with fellow Washington running back Antonio Gibson landing on the reserve/COVID-19 list two days before Sunday's game against the Eag...
Impact ESPN's John Keim suggests rookie RB Jaret Patterson will start in the like event Gibson is out, but Williams and practice-squad player Wendell Smallwood could also have roles, potentially including snaps on passing downs. Williams has played in three games (Weeks 14-16) this season, taking eight carries for 30 yards and a touchdown while catching two of three targets for 21 yards. During that same stretch (the past three weeks), Patterson carried 17 times for 81 yards and a score but was targeted just once.
DECEMBER 31, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Five touches in first game Williams ran four times for 16 yards -- including a one-yard touchdown -- and caught his only target for 19 yards during Sunday's 27-20 loss to the Cowboys.
Impact With J.D. McKissic (concussion) expected to miss his second consecutive game, Washington signed Williams off the Giants' practice squad ahead of Week 14. The 27-year-old running back split time with Jaret Patterson in reserve of Antonio Gibson, and while the two backups shared similar yardage totals, Williams touchdown separated him from the pack. However, even if McKissic is sidelined for a third straight game, neither backup likely garners much fantasy potential heading into Sunday's showdown with the Eagles.
DECEMBER 14, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Inked by Washington The Football Team signed Williams off the Giants' practice squad Wednesday.
Impact Williams spent time with Washington this offseason, and he will now provide the team with some backfield insurance while J.D. McKissic (concussion) continues to work through the league's protocol for head injuries. The running back appeared in five games for the Lions last year.
DECEMBER 8, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Signed to Giants' practice squad Williams was added to the Giants' practice squad Thursday, Dan Benton of USA Today reports.
Impact The running back was released from Washigton's practice squad Nov. 2, but has now found a new opportunity in New York. Williams has yet be on an active roster this season and that will likely remain barring any injuries.
NOVEMBER 18, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Released by Washington Williams was let go by Washington on Monday, Ben Standig of The Athletic reports.
Impact Williams was considered a long shot to land on Washington's 53-man roster, as he firmly fifith on their depth chart. The question now is whether they will keep three or four running backs on the roster. The sixth-year back suited up for five games with the team last year. He accumulated just five yards on one carry.
AUGUST 31, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Lands future pact Williams signed a reserve/future contract with Washington on Monday,
Impact Williams spent a short period of time on Washington's practice squad this year after being jettisoned from the Lions. While this past season was a quiet one for the running back, he logged 49 carries for 235 yards and a touchdown with the Colts in 2019.
JANUARY 12, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
No longer with Lions Williams was waived by the Lions on Thursday, Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Impact The Arkansas product was afforded five 2020 game appearances during his partial-season stint in Detroit, but he never gained much traction in the Lions' backfield. Over a combined 27 offensive snaps, Williams collected 26 scrimmage yards on five touches. A lost fumble Week 12 against the Texans may have cost him down the stretch.
DECEMBER 25, 2020 • ROTOWIRE
No touches in Sunday's win Williams didn't receive a carry or a target in Sunday's 34-20 win over the Bears.
Impact Even with D'Andre Swift (illness) out of the lineup and Kerryon Johnson (knee) suffering an injury during the game, Williams was left out of the backfield rotation. Instead, Adrian Peterson rushed 16 times. Williams is emergency depth for Detroit, and that could have some value if Swift and Johnson miss more time.
DECEMBER 8, 2020 • ROTOWIRE
Gets opportunity on offense Williams rushed once for five yards and secured four of four targets for 21 yards during Thursday's 41-25 loss to Houston.
Impact Williams hadn't seen an offensive snap all season before logging 21 for Detroit during Thursday's game, which was one less snap than starter Adrian Peterson but half of what Kerryon Johnson (39 snaps) saw. While all of these guys probably would've seen less playing time had D'Andre Swift (concussion) been available, it is notable that it was Williams on the field when Detroit was in hurry-up mode in the second half. Given the committee approach Detroit has been taking to the backfield, it wouldn't be a complete surprise if Williams saw another handful of snaps in Week 13 against Chicago, should Swift remain sidelined.
DECEMBER 2, 2020 • ROTOWIRE
Officially on active roster Williams has cleared the COVID-19 protocols and is on the Lions' 53-man roster, Justin Rogers of The Detroit News reports.
Impact Williams signed with the team last Friday and is now officially a member of the active roster. The Lions cut Bo Scarbrough to clear up a roster spot. Williams enjoyed a moment of glory with the Colts last season when he produced back-to-back, 100-yard rushing performances, but he quickly fell back to earth and ended up playing just two offensive snaps over the final four games. He'll serve as depth in this backfield that's already divvying up touches to rookie D'Andre Swift, Adrian Peterson and Kerryon Johnson.
NOVEMBER 5, 2020 • ROTOWIRE
Heads to Detroit The Lions signed Williams to the active roster Friday, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
Impact Williams made a pitstop on Detroit's practice squad earlier this season but was cut after just a week with the unit, inking a deal with Washington's practice squad shortly thereafter. The Lions are bringing him in as backfield depth now, but he likely won't be utilized much following D'Andre Swift's recent success and Adrian Peterson's ability to remain in the mix despite his inefficiencies. Williams won't be eligible to play Week 8 against the Colts due to COVID-19 protocols, but he could suit up next week against the Vikings.
OCTOBER 30, 2020 • ROTOWIRE
Back to active roster Williams reverted to the Lions' practice squad.
Impact Williams was brought up to the active roster for Week 1's divisional showdown against the Bears, but the running back was ultimately a healthy scratch. The Lions have plenty of backfield depth, so Williams will struggle to climb the team's depth chart.
SEPTEMBER 16, 2020 • ROTOWIRE
Inactive for season opener Williams is inactive for Sunday's game against the Raiders.
Impact Williams was promoted to the Lions' active roster Saturday, but he will not immediately suit up for the team. He slots in sixth in the depth chart, so it's unlikely he will play a key role in the Lions' offense anytime soon.
SEPTEMBER 13, 2020 • ROTOWIRE
Promoted to active roster Williams was promoted to the active roster Saturday.
Impact Williams was cut by the Lions late in training camp but re-joined the team's practice squad. He's now on the 55-man active roster but isn't likely to have much of a role given the depth of the Lions' backfield.
SEPTEMBER 12, 2020 • ROTOWIRE
Signs with Detroit Williams inked a contract with the Lions on Monday.
Impact The 26-year-old failed to earn another contract with the Colts heading into 2020 after he rushed for 235 yards and a touchdown on 49 carries this past season. The Lions have drafted running backs in the second round in the past two drafts in Kerryon Johnson (2018) and D'Andre Swift (2020), so it's unlikely that Williams will see any meaningful time in 2020 with the team barring injuries.
