No Nick Chubb, Jerome Ford Out Injured: Can Browns Hold On To Upset Eagles? Jan 13, 2024; Houston, Texas, USA; Cleveland Browns running back Jerome Ford (34) and Houston Texans linebacker Christian Harris (48) fight...
OCTOBER 13, 2024 • CHARLOTTEOBSERVER.COM
Won't return Week 6 Ford (hamstring) has been ruled out for the remainder of Sunday's game against Philadelphia, Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
Impact Ford was injured in the first quarter and was ruled out just before halftime. Prior to his exit, the running back rushed twice for 14 yards and didn't receiving any passing targets. It's uncertain if the hamstring issue will affect Ford's availability to face the Bengals next Sunday, and even if he does suit up he could have a lessened workload with Nick Chubb (knee) expected to be active for the first time since Week 2 of last season.

Jerome Ford questionable to return vs. the Eagles Ford sustained a hamstring injury in the first quarter against the Eagles
OCTOBER 13, 2024 • CLEVELANDBROWNS.COM
Hurts hamstring Sunday Ford was forced out of Sunday's game against the Eagles with a hamstring injury.
Impact Before sustaining the injury, Ford carried twice for 14 yards. In his absence, D'Onta Foreman and Pierre Strong are next up for the Browns' Week 6 carries, while Nick Chubb (knee/PUP list) is still unavailable but trending toward returning to the team's backfield mix next week.
OCTOBER 13, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Trending to lead role Week 6 Ford is expected to maintain the lead backfield role Week 6 against Philadelphia, as both Nick Chubb (knee) and Nyheim Hines (knee) are ruled out on the Browns' injury report.
Impact Ford will top the backfield for a sixth consecutive game, but it hasn't gone well for him or the Browns. He's gained a healthy 5.2 yards per carry, but has fewer than 10 carries per game and one touchdown. The team's play caller -- head coach Kevin Stefanski -- has led a game plan thus far that tilted toward the passing game, and the results aren't pretty. Perhaps the coach will shift focus, leaning on Ford and the ground game, against the league's 20th ranked rushing defense (128.8 yards per game).
OCTOBER 12, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Splits work with Foreman Ford carried the ball nine times for 47 yards and caught all three of his targets for two yards in Sunday's 34-13 loss to the Commanders.
Impact While he led the Cleveland backfield in rushing yards, Ford's production on the ground was nearly identical to D'Onta Foreman, who gained 44 yards on nine carries. The entire Browns' offense is struggling right now, and being in a timeshare won't help Ford break out -- the third-year RB hasn't seen more than 10 carries or scored a TD in four straight games, topping out at 64 rushing yards during that stretch. The team's backfield situation will change radically once Nick Chubb (knee) is cleared to return, but if Chubb remains sidelined in Week 6, Ford will try to make an impact against a well-rested Eagles defense that will be coming out of its bye.

Still lead back Ford is expected to be the lead back Sunday against the Commanders, as both Nick Chubb (knee) and Nyheim Hines (knee) have been ruled out.
Impact Ford should be the lead back for a fifth consecutive week, but the time is ticking after the Browns designated Chubb and Hines to return during the preparation week. The Browns rank 26th in rushing offense (94.8 ypg) and have yet to commit a ground attack. Ford has just 39 carries through four games and is averaging 5.2 yards per carry.

SEPTEMBER 30, 2024 • CLEVELAND.COM
Turns 17 touches into 85 yards Ford (knee) ran the ball 10 times for 58 yards while adding seven receptions on as many targets for 27 yards in Sunday's 20-16 loss to Las Vegas.
Impact Ford overcame a minor knee injury he picked up in Week 3 to lead Cleveland's backfield in a close loss to the Raiders. The veteran tailback finished with a new high of 85 combined yards through four starts replacing Nick Chubb (knee) this year. Ford has yet to hit pay dirt since scoring his lone touchdown in Week 1, but he maintains a strong hold on the starting job while Chubb remains sidelined. The 25-year-old should carry FLEX appeal heading into a Week 5 matchup against the Commanders.

Set to play in Week 4 Ford (knee) doesn't have a designation for Sunday's game in Las Vegas, Daniel Oyefusi of ESPN.com reports.
Impact Ford followed up Wednesday's DNP and Thursday's limited session with a full practice to wrap up Week 4 prep, thus paving the way for him to continue leading the Browns backfield. Through three games on the campaign, he's tallied 39 touches for 203 yards from scrimmage and one rushing TD, while No. 2 RB D'Onta Foreman has 17-56-0, respectively. Ford thus is the Browns' unquestioned top runner for as long as Nick Chubb (knee) remains on the reserve/PUP list, and the former will be taking on a Raiders defense that has given up a league-worst 5.6 YPC to opposing running backs this season.
SEPTEMBER 27, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Limited in return to practice Ford (knee) was a limited practice participant Thursday.
Impact After logging no reps in Wednesday's session, Ford took a step forward in his recovery from the knee issue by increasing his practice activity. He'll likely still need to upgrade to full participation Friday to avoid taking a designation into Sunday's game in Las Vegas, but at this stage of the week, Ford appears to be trending toward suiting up.
SEPTEMBER 26, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Returns to practice Thursday Ford (knee) is participating at practice Thursday, Daniel Oyefusi of ESPN.com reports.
Impact Ford didn't practice Wednesday, but he's participating in at least a limited capacity Thursday. He played a season-high 83 percent of offensive snaps during Cleveland's loss to the Giants in Week 3, rushing 10 times for 37 yards and securing three of four targets for 33 yards, and it was at no point reported that Ford had to leave the game due to injury. That could be an indication that Ford's absence Wednesday was only due to a minor issue or for rest purposes. Assuming he's good to go, Ford will be in position to again lead the Browns' backfield versus the Raiders on Sunday.
SEPTEMBER 26, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
DNP due to knee Wednesday Ford (knee) didn't practice Wednesday, Daniel Oyefusi of ESPN.com reports.
Impact Ford's managing a knee injury to begin the week, but he still has two additional opportunities to return to practice Thursday and Friday before Cleveland publishes its Week 4 injury for Sunday's game against the Raiders. Pierre Strong (hamstring) also didn't practice Wednesday, while Nick Chubb (knee) is ineligible to come off the PUP list until Week 5 at the earliest, leaving D'Onta Foreman and Gary Brightwell as the team's only healthy running backs at the moment.
SEPTEMBER 25, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Not expected to practice Wednesday Ford (knee) isn't expected to practice Wednesday, Daniel Oyefusi of ESPN.com reports.
Impact Ford was on the field for 53 of a possible 67 snaps on offense in this past Sunday's loss to the Giants, while logging 10 carries for 37 yards and three catches for 33 yards in the contest. It remains to be seen if the running back's knee issue is something that might impact his Week 4 status, but if Ford is limited or out this weekend against the Raiders, D'Onta Foreman and Gary Brightwell would be candidates for added snaps.
SEPTEMBER 25, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Posts 70 scrimmage yards Week 3 Ford rushed 10 times for 37 yards and caught three of four targets for 33 yards in Sunday's 21-15 loss to the Giants.
Impact Ford had four first-half carries for four yards while no teammate recorded more than one first-half rushing attempt as the Browns took a 21-7 deficit into the locker room. He finished the game with 10 carries compared to only two for D'Onta Foreman, and Ford posted the second-highest receiving yardage total on the team thanks to a 24-yard catch in the second half. Ford has posted between 64 and 70 scrimmage yards in each of Cleveland's first three games and should continue to lead the team's backfield in Week 4 against the Raiders since Nick Chubb (knee) is ineligible to come off the PUP list until Week 5 at the earliest.

Has favorable Week 3 matchup Ford has a favorable Week 3 matchup against the Giants, who rank 28th in rushing yards allowed, Chris Easterling of the Akron Beacon Journal reports.
Impact The Browns have had a couple of disjointed offensive efforts to open the season, and the winless Giants present an opportunity to fix the issues. Ford, who had just 19 carries in the first two weeks, could get that many touches this week. The Browns, which has considered the ground game central to their plan, rank 21st in rushing yards (109.0 ypg) after two games.

Falls behind Foreman Ford rushed the ball seven times for 64 yards in Sunday's 18-13 win over Jacksonville. He added one reception on two targets for zero yards.
Impact Ford led Cleveland's backfield in Week 1 but was surprisingly limited against Jacksonville and was out-touched 15-8 by D'Onta Foreman. Game script likely had something to do with it, as Ford had one more opportunity than Foreman at halftime, but Cleveland was ahead by two possessions for a lengthy portion of the second half. Positively, Ford had two of the Browns' biggest gains with rushes of 36 and 12 yards. That efficiency combined with a lack of depth -- Pierre Strong (hamstring) exited Sunday's game -- should keep him in the mix for touches every week, though his volume could remain volatile.

Totals 18 touches Ford rushed the ball 12 times for 44 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 33-17 loss to the Cowboys. He added six receptions on seven targets for 25 yards.
Impact Ford unsurprisingly served as Cleveland's lead back but saw his volume on the ground limited by the game script. He made up for that with a garbage-time touchdown with 29 seconds remaining and also had strong involvement as a pass catcher. While Deshaun Watson made things difficult for the majority of the Browns' skill-position players, Ford was a beneficiary as a regular dump-off option. So long as Nick Chubb (knee) is sidelined, Ford should be capable of putting together similar results moving forward.
