INJURIES

Slight uptick in Week 9 usage McKinnon reeled in all three of his targets for 26 yards Sunday versus the Packers.
Impact McKinnon didn't receive any touches last week against the Giants but got a bit more involved Sunday. He's primarily a pass-catching option out of the backfield who can contribute on third downs, so his upside from a fantasy point will presumably remain limited.

Minimal Week 8 usage McKinnon played just 13 offensive snaps in Monday's game versus the Giants.
Impact McKinnon didn't wind up with any carries for a second straight week and didn't make any catches either. Derrick Gore notably played more snaps than him as well, so there isn't much to like in terms of McKinnon's fantasy prospects.

Muted usage in Week 7 McKinnon compiled a pair of catches for 17 yards on four targets Sunday versus the Titans.
Impact McKinnon didn't carry the ball once and saw just 20 snaps Sunday despite Clyde Edwards-Helaire being unavailable for the contest. With CEH's return eventually coming, it doesn't seem like McKinnon will possess much fantasy value barring Darrel Williams joining Edwards-Helaire on the sidelines.

Minimal bump in Week 6 usage McKinnon rushed three times for 10 yards and reeled in one pass for another five yards on four targets Sunday versus Washington.
Impact McKinnon was involved a bit more in the offense this week, finishing with four touches compared to just three last week while amassing a season-high four targets. That being said, he actually played a smaller snap share (28 percent) than he did last week (32 percent) and doesn't seem to have enough usage to warrant fantasy consideration in most formats.

In line for more work McKinnon is slated for more touches for at least the next three games after the Chiefs placed Clyde Edwards-Helaire (knee) on injured reserve Tuesday, Blair Kerkhoff of The Kansas...
Impact Edwards-Helaire was diagnosed with an MCL sprain in his left knee after his early departure from Kansas City's Week 5 loss to the Bills. During that contest, McKinnon received a season-high 32 percent share of the offensive snaps, but he managed just one carry for two yards and two catches (on two targets) for 13 yards. Meanwhile, new presumptive starting RB Darrel Williams logged 41 percent of the plays on offense en route to eight touches for 45 total yards. Williams is expected to be the early down and goal-line back in Edwards-Helaire's place, but McKinnon's pass-catching ability should result in a regular role moving forward.

Chiefs seek balance with Edwards-Helaire unavailable

Logs season-high 25 snaps McKinnon ran once for two yards and caught both of his targets for 13 yards Sunday against the Bills.
Impact McKinnon entered the equation a bit more Sunday after Clyde Edwards-Helaire left the contest due to a knee injury that turned out to be an MCL sprain. With CEH potentially missing multiple weeks due to the injury, McKinnon figures to slot in as the primary backup for Darrel Williams in that span. However, the Chiefs could also elect to add a running back from another club, which could dilute the backfield totes further.
OCTOBER 12, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Still buried on depth chart McKinnon played four offensive snaps and reeled in his lone target for 14 yards Sunday against the Ravens.
Impact McKinnon is essentially a special teams player at this point with occasional involvement on offense and that's unlikely to change as long as Clyde Edwards-Helaire and Darrel Williams remain healthy. Otherwise, he should remain off the fantasy radar in the vast majority of formats.

Chiefs defense exposed by Jackson, Ravens in 36-35 defeat

The Chiefs defense was exposed on multiple fronts in a 36-35 loss to the Ravens on Sunday night
SEPTEMBER 20, 2021 • Associated Press
Minimal snaps in Week 1 McKinnon tallied just four offensive snaps and didn't record a run during Saturday's game against the Browns.
Impact McKinnon was brought in as a depth at running back and is an excellent pass-catching option out of the backfield. However, both Clyde Edwards-Helaire and Darrel Williams also perform well as receivers, leaving McKinnon on the outside looking for most of the snaps. He's unlikely to see the field much as long as both remain available.

Starts at tailback McKinnon rushed four times for 23 yards and caught his only target for four yards in Friday night's 28-25 preseason win over the Vikings.
Impact McKinnon started at running back but then alternated with Darwin Thompson and Derrick Gore before getting back in on Kansas City's fourth drive. Although Thompson was kept relatively quiet, Gore totaled 106 yards on his 11 touches, which included an electric 56-yard touchdown from a screen pass in the third quarter. As all three players hope to be named the Chiefs' third tailback behind Clyde Edwards-Helaire and Darrel Williams, it'll be interesting to see who wins the job ahead of Week 1's matchup versus the Browns.

Competing for third string spot McKinnon turned in three carries for four yards and three catches for another 21 yards and a touchdown during Friday's preseason game versus the Cardinals.
Impact McKinnon was brought to Kansas City with the knowledge that he specializes as a receiving threat out of the backfield. While he was unable to get much done as a runner Friday, he took advantage of his opportunities as a receiver, snaring a five-yard touchdown pass midway through the third quarter. Per John Dillon of USA Today, McKinnon is in an important three-way battle with Darwin Thompson and Derrick Gore to claim the No. 3 running back spot behind Clyde Edwards-Helaire (ankle) and Darrel Williams (head), so the third preseason contest could be even more important.

Looks good early in camp McKinnon has impressed during the early stages of training camp, Charles Goldman of USA Today reports.
Impact While second-year pro Clyde Edwards-Helaire is the incumbent top running back in Kansas City, McKinnon has mixed in with the first-team offense during the first few practices of camp, per Nate Taylor of The Athletic. On Friday, Patrick Mahomes spoke glowingly of McKinnon, calling him "a playmaker that will be a big part of the offense." After missing the 2018 and 2019 seasons due to numerous right knee injuries, McKinnon didn't exactly impress in sporadic action with the 49ers last year, averaging 3.9 yards on his 81 carries, hauling in 33 of 46 passes and scoring six TDs in 16 games. More than likely, he'll vie for reps with Darrel Williams behind Edwards-Helaire in 2021.
