Impact After he landed awkwardly on his right leg while attempting to come down with a deep ball on a go route, Washington required a cart to go to the locker room. Per Adam Schefter of ESPN, it initially was feared that he may have sustained a Jones fracture in his right foot, but tests confirmed it's a metatarsal fracture. With Michael Gallup (knee) unlikely to be available Week 1, the Cowboys' receiving corps will be reliant on CeeDee Lamb, rookie Jalen Tolbert and tight end Dalton Schultz to begin the campaign.

Impact Washington will undergo additional testing over the next day or two before the Cowboys provide an updated diagnosis for his injury, but the early signs weren't encouraging, as he wasn't able to put any weight on his foot while he exited the practice field. Though Washington was held under 400 receiving yards in both of his final two seasons in Pittsburgh, the Cowboys were likely counting on him to have a regular role in three-receiver sets early on during the upcoming campaign while Michael Gallup (knee) finishes his recovery from a torn ACL. The Cowboys now look to be at risk at entering Week 1 sans both Gallup and Washington.

Impact Washington didn't put any weight on his injured leg and then was carted back to the locker room. He's in the mix for a Week 1 starting job, especially with Michael Gallup (torn ACL) considered unlikely to be ready for the opener. If both Gallup and Washington miss time, rookie Jalen Tolbert would be looking at a huge opportunity.

Impact Washington made good on his prediction, returning for the start of camp after a sore foot tendon kept him sidelined from June minicamp and some portions of OTAs. He and rookie third-round pick Jalen Tolbert are the favorites to see snaps and targets behind CeeDee Lamb and Michael Gallup (knee), the latter of whom could miss the start of the season after having ACL surgery in February. Washington signed a one-year, $1.2 million contract with Dallas this spring, getting most of his money guaranteed on a modest deal.
