Filling in for Wentz Eason worked with the Colts' starters during Friday's practice, Joel A. Erickson of The Indianapolis Star reports.

Impact With Carson Wentz dealing with a foot injury that is expected to cost him some time, Eason is in line to take starter's reps at practice in the meantime, with Sam Ehlinger and Jalen Morton also on hand. A timetable for Wentz's return is pending the results of tests that he's undergoing, per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

Looks set for backup QB role Eason is the favorite to be the backup to Carson Wentz even after the Colts took Sam Ehlinger in the sixth round of the 2021 NFL Draft, ESPN 107.5 FM Indianapolis reports.

Impact Eason didn't play a snap in a regular-season game during his rookie 2020 campaign, but the Colts had enough faith in him not to sign a veteran after Jacoby Brissett, last year's backup, left in free agency. Eason isn't likely to get on the field much this season barring an injury to Carson Wentz, however.

Impact Eason didn't see any work in Indianapolis as a rookie, as Jacoby Brissett worked as the second-string option behind a healthy Rivers all season. Brissett is additionally scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent, so at least for the meantime, Eason appears to have a realistic path to snaps in his sophomore season.
