Speedster re-ups with Buffalo McKenzie has re-signed with the Bills, Jay Skurski of The Buffalo News reports.

Impact McKenzie is strictly a role player, but he's become an excellent chess piece in Brian Daboll's high-powered offense. McKenzie surprisingly had five receiving touchdowns last season after having only one in his previous four years of NFL action. He also added a passing touchdown and a return TD. The Bills are plenty set in terms of starting wideouts between Stefon Diggs, Cole Beasley and Emmanuel Sanders, but McKenzie will fulfill a similar role in 2021. With return specialist Andre Roberts off to Houston, McKenzie could see more time in the return game.

Impact McKenzie finished 2020 with career highs for catches (30), receiving yards (282) and touchdowns (five), despite working as Buffalo's fourth or fifth WR for most of the year. He's generally been an effective role player in his two and a half seasons with the team, catching 75 of 103 targets (72.8 percent) for 744 yards and six touchdowns, plus 28-124-2 on the ground. The Bills probably want to keep him around, but McKenzie might find a bigger role and/or more money if he explores the open market.

Impact The Bills have some injury issues within their lethal wide receiver corps, as McKenzie looks to have shaken his issue while Stefon Diggs and Cole Beasley are both questionable for Saturday. It would appear McKenzie and Diggs are highly likely to suit up, while Beasley seems like a true 50-50 proposition. If the latter falls on the bad side of that see-saw, McKenzie -- typically a jet sweep and gadget option -- could see a few extra looks in the team's high-powered offense in an attempt to keep a stout Colts defense on its toes.
