Whether he's surpassed Preston Williams for the No. 2 receiver job for all practical purposes remains to be seen, but Ford will have another opportunity to build up his numbers in a Week 5 road battle against the 49ers.

Impact Despite the fact DeVante Parker was able to play through a questionable designation due to a hamstring injury, Ford still played a major role as the No. 3 receiver. The third-year pro ultimately checked in second in receptions, receiving yardage and targets on the Dolphins to tight end Mike Gesicki, meaning he set the pace for the wideouts. Ford had only logged four targets in Week 1, but in a Chan Gailey-coordinated offense that has traditionally generated solid production for what were previously complementary receivers, he may have some upside. Ford won't have to wait long to try and build on Sunday's numbers, as the Dolphins will take on the Jaguars in a Week 3 road battle Thursday night.

Poised to benefit from opt-outs Ford has a nice opportunity after teammates Albert Wilson and Allen Hurns opted out of the 2020 season, Joe Schad of The Palm Beach Post reports.

Impact Ford handled the No. 3 receiver role over the final four weeks of last season, grabbing 21 of 29 targets for 235 yards. He could now enter training camp with a top-three spot in Chan Gailey's offense, as the only other Miami wideouts with significant NFL experience are DeVante Parker, Preston Williams (knee) and Jakeem Grant. Even if the Dolphins add a few bodies in the coming weeks, Ford should have a role in the Week 1 gameplan.
