GAME LOG

INJURIES

Active Sunday Haskins (chest) is listed as active for Sunday's game against the Colts.
Impact Haskins was an addition to the Chargers' injury report Thursday but was listed as a full participant at that day's practice. Though the running back followed that up with a full session Friday, he was still deemed questionable for Sunday's contest. With his active status confirmed, Haskins -- who had six carries and a catch in last week's win over Miami -- is available to work behind Kimani Vidal (who was the team's starter versus the Dolphins while recording 18 carries, three catches and a TD), with practice-squad elevation Nyheim Hines also on hand.

Questionable after full practice Haskins (chest) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Colts after practicing fully Friday.
Impact Haskins -- who logged six carries and a catch in Week 6's win over Miami -- popped up on the Chargers' injury report Thursday, but was listed as a full participant in that day's practice. With the running back now listed as questionable after another full session a day later, Haskins' status is worth tracking ahead of Sunday's 4:05 p.m. ET kickoff. If he's limited or sidelined versus Indianapolis, added touches would be available for Kimani Vidal (who was the team's starter versus the Dolphins, en route to logging 18 carries and three catches). Meanwhile, Nyheim Hines and Amar Johnson are possible practice squad elevations ahead of Week 7 action.

Hardly used despite workload bump Haskins carried the ball six times for 14 yards and caught his only target for nine yards in Sunday's 29-27 win over the Dolphins.
Impact Haskins was supposed to be part of a committee with Kimani Vidal replacing the injured Omarion Hampton (IR, ankle), but Vidal quickly proved to be the far more explosive back and ran away with the workload in the second half, finishing with 124 rushing yards and 14 receiving yards plus a touchdown. That's about as definitive of a difference as one could envision and likely means Haskins, who has primarily been a special-teams player during his time with the Chargers, could get squeezed out of platoon work after Vidal's amazing efforts. It's worth noting Miami's run defense is one of the worst in the league, and the Chargers could lean on the bruising Michigan product in short-yardage situations in future weeks.

Candidate to lead backfield Sunday Mike Garafolo of NFL Network indicates that Haskins is expected to lead the Chargers' backfield Sunday against the Dolphins, with Kimani Vidal also slated to mix in, per Ian Rapop...
Impact That said, Kris Rhim of ESPN.com relayed Thursday that offensive coordinator Greg Roman didn't identify a lead back for the Chargers in Week 6 in the wake of Omarion Hampton (ankle) landing on IR, with Roman noting of the duo, "they're gonna be big factors in the game, how it's gonna unfold from step count standpoint...can go a bunch of different ways in that regard." Considering that, even if Haskins draws the start, both backs should contribute versus Miami -- with Nyheim Hines in reserve -- as the team adjusts to being without Hampton for at least four weeks, with Garafolo suggesting that the RB's absence could extend beyond that time-frame. Meanwhile, Garafolo indicates that it's possible the Chargers add backfield depth ahead of the NFL trade deadline. Either way, Haskins and Vidal both represent lineup options for those who had been leaning on Hampton, or are otherwise looking for RB help this week.

Impact Haskins and Vidal are next in line for backfield touches after Omarion Hampton (ankle) was placed on injured reserve Wednesday, ensuring Hampton will miss at least four games. Haskins and Vidal played 14 snaps each on offense in the Chargers' 27-10 Week 5 loss to Commanders, during which Hampton got hurt. The Chargers will likely ride the hot hand at running back Sunday in a rotation that could also include Amar Johnson, if Johnson's elevated from the practice squad against a Dolphins defense that has allowed the most rushing yards in the league this season.

Impact Meanwhile, fellow backup running back Kimani Vidal also logged 14 snaps, while carrying four times for 18 yards and catching his only target for one yard. However, with Eric Smith of the Chargers' official site relaying Monday that top back Omarion Hampton is in line to be placed on IR and miss at least four games with an ankle injury, Haskins and Vidal both figure to see added touches in that span, with Amar Johnson representing a possible practice squad elevation. Moreover, the team could add further backfield depth in the coming days, but for now the looming potential for an expanded workload makes Haskins worthy waiver of waiver wire consideration for those in need of RB help ahead of Week 6 action.

No bump in playing time Haskins played five offensive snaps and did not record an offensive stat in the 21-18 loss to the Giants on Sunday.
Impact Haskins played five offensive snaps compared to Kimani Vidal's two, but the backfield clearly belonged to rookie Omarion Hampton who put together another fantastic performance on virtually the entire workload. Haskins projects to be the short-yardage back if the Chargers opt for that route, but otherwise clearly isn't a relevant backup in this offense.

Solid showing against Saints Haskins took six carries for 33 yards while catching both of his targets for 12 receiving yards in Sunday's 27-13 preseason win over the Saints.
Impact Haskins wound up doubling fill-in starter Kimani Vidal's rushing totals with the exact same amount of carries Sunday. Both players are currently competing for backup roles behind projected starting options Najee Harris (eye) and Omarion Hampton. Haskins will look to build off of this solid performance when the Chargers take on the Rams in Saturday's preseason tilt.
