INJURIES

Playing time drops Bryant failed to catch his only target in Sunday's 32-23 win over the Colts.
Impact Bryant's claim to the No. 2 TE spot behind starter Austin Hooper came to an end Sunday, as David Njoku returned from a knee injury. While Bryant (29) had more snaps than Njoku (21), his playing time dropped from the 41 snaps he averaged while Njoku was on injured reserved the last three weeks.

Competition returns Bryant will have more competition for playing time, as the Browns anticipate David Njoku (knee) returning Week 5, Andrew Gribble of the Browns' official site reports.
Impact Bryant has filled in the last three weeks while Njoku recovered from a sprained MCL. Bryant and Njoku will compete for playing time behind (and along with) primary tight end Austin Hooper in Cleveland's multi-TE attack. It's unknown how the deployment will shake itself out, as the only time all three were active was Week 1 when Njoku left in the third quarter. One thing that became clear during Njoku's absence is that Browns are confident Bryant can handle the workload, so it's not a given the veteran Njoku will step in as the top backup.

Four catches in win Bryant caught four of four targets for 37 yards in Sunday's 49-38 win over Dallas.
Impact Bryant's usage has increased each game since the season opener, which is partly due to David Njoku's knee injury. It's also due to the maturity he brings to the position -- the Browns trust the rookie to do his job on each play. Bryant has at least one target and catch in all four games. Cleveland's tight ends had their most productive game Week 4, as Bryant and Austin Hooper combined for nine catches on 11 targets for 71 yards and a touchdown. Until Njoku returns, Bryant remains the top backup to Hooper.

Scores first NFL touchdown Bryant caught one of two targets for three yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 34-20 win over Washington in Week 3.
Impact Bryant's touchdown catch, the first of his NFL career, proved to be the game-winning score for the Browns, who fought back from two deficits in the game. Bryant has one catch in all three games played while getting much experience in the wake of David Njoku's knee injury. His 40 snaps and 63 percent of the offensive plays were season highs for the rookie.

Greater share of snaps Week 2 Bryant caught one of two targets for 14 yards and played 30 snaps (52 percent) in Thursday's 35-30 win over the Bengals in Week 2.
Impact Bryant played one less snap Thursday than he did Week 1, but the rookie had a greater share of the total, going from 42 to 52 percent. As expected, his usage increased with David Njoku (knee) on injured reserve. However, that was tempered by the increase in snaps for fullback Andy Janovich, who went from nine snaps Week 1 to 22 on Thursday. Bryant has two catches, four targets and 19 yards after two games.

Benefits from Njoku injury With the Browns placing David Njoku on injured reserve Monday, Bryant should see an increase in playing time.
Impact Njoku will be out for at least three weeks, which gives Bryant a lot of exposure beginning Week 2 at home against the Bengals on Thursday. The rookie's 31 snaps in a Week 1 loss to the Ravens were second among four tight ends that played. The entire position group combined to play 116 snaps, so the offense is geared to playing multiple tight ends. Austin Hooper, who played 77 percent of the snaps Week 1, could also see an increase.

Targeted twice in loss Bryant caught one of two targets for five yards in Sunday's 38-6 loss to the Ravens in Week 1.
Impact Both of Bryant's targets were in the first quarter, including his lone catch on the second play of the game, so the Browns appear to be confident in the rookie fourth-round pick. He began the day third on the depth chart, but could see an uptick in playing time after David Njoku departed with a knee injury. The Browns have a quick turnaround for Week 2, playing Thursday night against the Bengals, which might be too quick for a Njoku return.

Voted top rookie at camp Bryant was named the winner of Cleveland's 2020 Maurice Basset award for the best rookie at training camp, Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram reports.
Impact The rookie fourth-round pick has made the most of his opportunities in training camp, especially when David Njoku logged a three-day absence due to a wrist injury and Bryant was called upon to step up. New coach Kevin Stefanski stands run a substantial amount of two-tight end sets this season, so Bryant could see a respectable amount of reps despite operating behind Austin Hooper and Njoku on the depth chart. If Bryant is able to carry his momentum from camp into the regular season he could even pressure Njoku, but the Florida Atlantic product still faces a steep path to fantasy relevance as a rookie.

Filling in for Njoku Bryant has received practice snaps in place of the injured David Njoku (wrist), Andrew Gribble of the Browns' official site reports.
Impact Njoku is experiencing soreness in the same wrist he injured in 2019, though the issue doesn't appear to be serious at this time. Bryant has stood out in camp both with his play on the field and with his ability to grasp the offense. "He is a very locked-in young man," coach Kevin Stefanski told Scott Patsko of the Cleveland Plain Dealer. "He is on top of his assignments. He plays with great effort. Very pleased with where he is. He has a ton of work to do. Everything that he is doing is happening for the first time for him, but pleased with his progression." The consensus entering the regular season is that Bryant will sit behind Austin Hooper and Njoku on the depth chart, but the 2020 fourth-round pick out of Florida Atlantic could eventually push for more playing time.

Has strong Wednesday Bryant caught a pair of touchdown passes during drills Wednesday, Dan Labbe of the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
Impact The Browns are giving Bryant a good look early in camp, and he's setting himself up for longer looks as camp wears on. The 2019 John Mackey Award winner can play off the line, something he did often at Florida Atlantic and the Browns want to do with their tight ends. Bryant's currently third on the depth chart but will be pushing David Njoku in camp.
