In line to start Week 7

Impact
Per Ben Baby of ESPN.com, Bernard is the leading candidate to headline the team's Week 7 backfield in Mixon's absence. Beyond Bernard, Samaje Perine should factor into the mix in short-yardage scenarios or obvious running downs, while Baby adds that 2019 sixth-round pick Trayveon Williams should be active for the first time this season as the Bengals' No. 3 back.

Totals 28 yards, score
Bernard rushed eight times for 15 yards and a touchdown and caught all three of his targets for 13 yards in Sunday's 31-27 loss to the Colts.
Impact
Bernard was ineffective on the ground against a tough Colts' front seven, but he enjoyed his highest snap share of the season (48 percent) after starter Joe Mixon exited early with a foot injury. Mixon will undergo further testing to see the extent of his injury, but coach Zac Taylor relayed Monday that he didn't believe it would be too serious. Taylor explained that Mixon was sidelined because Bernard was a better fit for the team's two-minute offense, according to Ben Baby of ESPN.com. We should know more about Mixon's injury by Wednesday at the latest, and Bernard would be an intriguing fantasy option if Mixon is forced to sit out Sunday versus the Browns, who have allowed seven touchdowns and 690 total yards to opposing running backs this year.

Clear for Week 6
Bernard (groin) doesn't have a designation for Sunday's contest at Indianapolis, Jay Morrison of The Athletic reports.
Impact
Bernard received 15 targets in the first three games of the season, but in the last two he's fallen off to two combined looks. He also has just four carries on the campaign, as Joe Mixon has become the workhorse running back of the Bengals offense. Expect much of the same for Bernard with Mixon running on all cylinders.

Lands on injury report
Bernard was a limited participant in Wednesday's practice due to a groin injury, Jay Morrison of The Athletic reports.
Impact
Bernard is making his first appearance of the season on the Bengals' injury report, but his ability to practice ins some fashion suggests his groin issue isn't a major concern. More worrisome for Bernard is is minimal role over the past two weeks, as he's rushed twice for 19 yards and added one four-yard reception on two targets with starter Joe Mixon becoming more of a workhorse.

Very limited use
Bernard had one catch for four yards on two targets with zero carries in Sunday's loss to the Ravens.
Impact
It was especially noteworthy that when the Bengals went with the hurry-up offense late in the game, Joe Mixon stayed in rather than the Bengals going to Bernard. As a result, Mixon had six catches on eight targets while Bernard stayed on the sideline.

Takes backseat to Mixon
Bernard had two carries for 19 yards and zero targets in the passing game in the Bengals' win over Jacksonville on Sunday.
Impact
Bernard was only on the field for 13 offensive snaps (17%), on a day when Joe Mixon finally got untracked. What's noteworthy is that Mixon had six catches on six targets, which is where Bernard frequently is used. Then again, the Bengals led for most of the second half, lessening the need for Bernard to be on the field.

Second-leading receiver in tie
Bernard corralled all three of his targets for a total of 55 receiving yards during Sunday's 23-23 tie against the Eagles.
Impact
The 28-year-old back went without a rush attempt, as Joe Mixon handled all 17 RB carries for Cincinnati while running to a 2.9 yard-per-attempt average. It appears that may be the trend going forward, as Bernard has been targeted 15 times through three games with only two rush attempts. Last year his usage was much more balanced, with Bernard garnering 53 rushes to 43 targets across his 16 appearances. Based on the way he's currently being deployed, Week 4 offers a promising matchup given that the Jaguars have surrendered the fifth-most RB receptions (22) thus far in 2020.

Hauls in five passes against Browns
Bernard registered a three-yard gain on his lone rush attempt, also corralling five of his seven targets for 22 receiving yards during Thursday's 35-30 loss to Cleveland.
Impact
PPR scoring has been favorable for Bernard's fantasy value given his nine catches through two weeks, but the 28-year-old back stands at just 53 scrimmage yards in the early going of 2020. That yardage total is perhaps not surprising given how much of a workhorse Joe Mixon is, totaling 19.6 offensive touches per game last year and a near-equivalent 20 touches per game so far this season. Bernard is expected to continue getting multiple looks from Joe Burrow each week coming out of the backfield, but his value is capped because of a lack of overall involvement and scoring opportunities. Bernard has one red-zone touch heading into a Week 3 matchup against an Eagles defense that is tied for a league-low five receptions allowed to opposing running backs.

Totals 38 yards in Week 1
Bernard rushed once for seven yards and caught four of five targets for 21 yards in Sunday's 16-13 loss to the Chargers.
Impact
The Bengals couldn't get much rolling on the ground Sunday, as the newly paid Joe Mixon averaged just 3.6 YPC on 19 carries. However, Bernard contributed as a pass-catcher and came close to scoring on the Bengals' final drive. It's clear Mixon is the bell cow, but Bernard played 29 percent of the offensive snaps, so he still has a role in his eighth NFL season.

Looking good for backup job
Bernard is one of five running backs remaining on the roster after the Bengals waived Rodney Anderson (knee) on Monday, James Rapien of SI.com reports.
Impact
Earlier in the offseason, there was some thought the Bengals might end up cutting Bernard to save cap space, but part of that scenario involved either Anderson or Trayveon Williams proving to be a reliable backup to Joe Mixon. It's possible for Williams to make such an impression in the coming weeks, but we haven't seen any suggestion that Bernard is in danger of being released. The 28-year-old signed a two-year extension last September, and while he's coming off the least productive season of his pro career, his solid track record as a pass catcher makes him an appealing backup.
