Buzz over Bills' offense lured Sanders to sign with Buffalo
Emmanuel Sanders had his eyes on Buffalo long before the veteran receiver signed with the Bills in free agency this week
MARCH 19, 2021

New teammate, new competition
Davis will likely have to compete for a starting role in 2021 after the Bills signed veteran free agent Emmanuel Sanders on Wednesday.
Impact
Davis looked poised for a spike in potential playing time after the Bills released John Brown last week, but the team quickly moved to fill the void with Sanders, who has every bit the resume as Brown and then some. The addition of Sanders likely pushes Davis back to the No. 4 spot on the depth chart. Even as a member of the Bills' high-powered offense, Davis would likely need an injury to one of the top three wideouts to become a reliable weekly producer. That said, Davis' 35-599-7 stat line as a rookie shows he's still probably worth a late-round dart in fantasy drafts.

Less crowded path to playing time
Davis could be in store for an enhanced role in 2021 after the Bills released John Brown on Wednesday.
Impact
Davis did well in his rookie season, but in the nine regular-season games Brown played, the former was pushed down to the No. 4 spot on the receiver depth chart. The Bills need more help at other positions and don't have much cap space -- hence the Brown move -- so there's a chance the team is satisfied entering the 2021 season with Davis as the No. 3 receiver behind Stefon Diggs and Cole Beasley. If that happens, Davis will make for a decent fantasy option given his 35-599-7 rookie line in the Bills' newly found high-powered passing game.

Ends big rookie season with thud
Davis (ankle) failed to reel in any of his three targets during Sunday's 38-24 loss to the Chiefs in the AFC Championship Game.
Impact
With everyone suited up for the Buffalo offense -- namely John Brown and Cole Beasley -- Davis only saw 22 percent of the offensive snaps, his lowest total in any game this season. While Davis and the Bills left a little on the table to the powerful Chiefs, the 2020 fourth-rounder should be pleased with his first campaign. Davis appeared in all 16 regular-season games, posting a 35-599-7 line on 62 targets. The TD catches ranked in a tie for second among all NFL rookies, while the yardage total was ninth. The only real cause for concern is if Brown remains part of the team's plan for 2021, as Davis would sit fourth in the WR pecking order behind Stefon Diggs, Brown and Beasley entering Week 1. But how often do three veteran receivers all stay healthy for long stretches?

Ready for AFC Championship
Davis (ankle) is active for Sunday's AFC Championship Game in Kansas City, Chris Brown of the Bills' official site reports.
Impact
Davis missed practice time this week before returning on a limited basis Friday, after which he was listed as questionable for the big contest. While he's probably not 100 percent, the rookie will be on the field for the biggest game of his football career, where he'll likely serve as the fourth receiving option behind Stefon Diggs, John Brown and Cole Beasley.

Misses another practice
Davis (ankle) did not participate in Thursday's practice.
Impact
Davis has been held out of practice since he sprained his ankle in Buffalo's divisional-round win over Baltimore. He continued playing after he suffered the injury, finishing the night without any catches on four targets. If Davis isn't available for the AFC Championship Game, the Bills could find more snaps for Isaiah McKenzie and/or one of their tight ends.

Absent from Wednesday's practice
The Bills listed Davis (ankle) as a non-participant during Wednesday's practice.
Impact
Davis picked up the ankle injury during Saturday's divisional-round win over the Ravens, but he was only forced to miss a few snaps before returning to the field. The rookie ultimately went without a catch on four targets, perhaps an indication that he wasn't playing at full strength. Davis will have two more opportunities to resume practicing ahead of Sunday's AFC Championship Game in Kansas City.

Quickly returns Saturday
Davis (ankle) returned to Saturday's divisional-round game against the Ravens, Jay Skurski of The Buffalo News reports.
Impact
The rookie out of UCF only missed a few plays before returning to action. Davis has been a major asset to the Bills' offense this season, specifically with the deep ball, as he has recorded 10 receptions of longer than 20 yards.

Injures ankle Saturday
Davis was forced out of Saturday's AFC divisional-round game against the Ravens with an ankle injury.
Impact

Strong playoff debut
Davis secured all four targets for 85 yards in Saturday's wild-card win over the Colts.
Impact
The rookie's snap count dropped to 54 percent, the lowest it's been since Week 10, but that was expected with John Brown (reserve/COVID-19 list) back in action starting in Week 17 and resuming his starting spot. Davis was the team's second-leading receiver in the win behind superstar Stefon Diggs' 128 yards, while the rookie has now seen at least four targets in each of the last seven games.
